This is so great with that bluesy feel, the N. African vocal, and the energetic electric guitar lines. Both an original sound and what seems to me a pretty easily accessible one. I just can't understand why so many people--or rather RP fans--would hate it.

Frequency of ratings are usually more or less skewed, peaking mostly at 6-8. When distribution starts to look more like a graphic audio equalizer, it says something about general RP audience.

Or, some of us just don't like it all that much.

I love RP because it exposes me to music from every place in the world. Some of it I like, some I love, and some of it I tolerate. I never hit the PTSD button, just in case the music I don't like as much starts to grow on me.

I would be dishonest if I stated my likes and dislikes have nothing to do with the country of origin, but the reasons are NOT GeoPolitical - I just happen to like music from some parts of the world more than others. Just as I prefer some genres more than others (ie. I have a hard time liking most rap music).

That being stated, I have never rated a song with a "1" (or anything below a "5"). I don't feel qualified to rate music I don't understand, so I just don't rate it.

Love Tinariwin and Bombino, just scratching the surface of the genre right now. Guitar work is sublime, and the rhythms are incredibly hypnotic. If I want to take my mind away from whatever is bugging me at the time, this is where I go.

First time I've met RP listeners in person! I should add that many heard this band in their travels in Morocco and elsewhere in Africa, which for Berkeley was not a surprise.

Fully recommend the tour to everyone. Swim in the Atlantic Ocean from an African beach, while listening to this hard-driving music.

Irrational political fear. This is a great track, but arguably more eclectic than most RP fare. Why can't that be the reason, instead of "knee jerk" attribution to listeners' presumed brainwashing?

So amazed that you are playing the most classic song from my favorite Touareg group, Tinariwen. I know the group well as they hail from Kidal, Mali, where I lived for several years. They are the most famous group of diaspora Touareg musicians and even opened for the Rolling Stones several years ago. You guys at Radio Paradise are simply amazing - your music knowledge is almost limitless.
