I know you've suffered
But I don't want you to hide
It's cold and loveless
I won't let you be denied

Soothing
I'll make you feel pure
Trust me
You can be sure

I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty's not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart

You trick your lovers
That you're wicked and divine
You may be a sinner
But your innocence is mine

Please me
Show me how it's done
Tease me
You are the one

I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty's not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart

Please me
Show me how it's done
Trust me
You are the one

I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty's not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart

I thought I was listening to Justin Timberlake there for awhile.
maybe the weakest song from a tremendeous album ....a good 7.
J'adore Muse.
I hope my neighbours like this song ... well, they don't have a choice {#Dancingbanana}

Great cover but the music sucks, boring.

They also made a surprisingly good movie of it starring the always excellent John Hurt as Winston Smith and Richard Burton in his last role as O'Brien. One of the few movies that is worthy of the book it is based on.

I most heartily agree!

Playing a song from a concept album about Orwell's 1984 would certainly raise the intellectual tone of Eurovision, right enough, but sadly this is a couple of orders of magnitude more interesting and complex than Eurovision. This was the first Muse album I bought, courtesy of hearing tracks from it on RP, and IMO it's still their best. 9 from the Nottingham jury.

i thought of Q Lazzarus' song Goodbye Horses.  It was the creey, effective song from Silence of the Lambs.  Is it just me...?  he is youtube link....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22ltlLZkFlE.

Agreed. I've heard some other Muse stuff on RP and liked it so I was dismayed when I heard this was a Muse song.
They play this song on the radio a fair bit and I REALLY dislike it, regardless of what the song's based on.

IMHO: cheesy lyrics + over-the-top dramatic expression of the lead singer = very wince-worthy song.

Wow, I thought this was Cloud Cult at first. I havn't heard them on here in a long time.

I am not over 50, but usually having the same musical taste of males aged 20-25 is NOT a good thing and this is certainly no exception!{#Puke}
My favorite song by a GREAT band! And I'm rapidly becoming an old fart. I think they're great, have interesting songwriting chops, and a lead man who can ACTUALLY SING. This generation's Queen. Good times.
Got this album not long after it came out and it rocks!  Also saw them at Austin City Limits last month - very good show.  They did a big rock show a la 1970s-80s with fancy light show including lasers, etc.  Sound was very good as well.  Would see them live again.

My Dad, born in 1929, saw Frank Zappa on TV around the time I was 15 (around 1977).  My Dad thought he was amazing.  I instantly thought my Dad was cool.

I think you need to adjust that age bracket a bit.  Maybe I'm anomalous, but I'm 31 and I HATE this band.

Maybe make it more like "aged 14-22".

Saw them in March in Baltimore.  Was only a casual fan, only knowing the songs on the radio.  This song blew me away.  Their stage show was amazing.  Easily one of the best shows I've ever been to, despite a crap facility.

Yippee! I'm cool! First time EVER!!!
Major love for the crunchy bass synth!
This was EXCELLENT in their live show.
That reminds me, I have a t-shirt to make...
Nice.  Never heard them before, but they strike a sentimental note...reminds my of what I remember of the 80's.  I'm a new fan.{#Devil_pimp}

Rick Wakeman comes to mind:

Haven't heard it in years, but, as far as I remember, not a bad effort.
Every bit as pompous as Muse, though...

When I listen to most of muse songs running on RP, the singer sounds like thom yorke being tortured.. to me, this is kinda cool in comparison... just opinions, and still don't get what this band has in common with Queen

The songs are direct references to Orwell's 1984, where the world is divided into 3 power blocs: Eurasia, Eastasia, and Oceania. I'd strongly recommend reading the book (or at least looking at the Wikipedia entry) as, although written in 1948, it is highly relevant these days and is truly a great work of literature. Orwell distilled the very essence of totalitarian power, regardless of the 'flavour' of the regime, and the features of Big Brother are very clearly evident in modern Western States. The slogans of BB are very apposite today:

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

Yeah, loved the prior album too, and bought this one ASAP. Was disappointed. This just doesn't rock it out like Black Holes and Revelations. Bands can change and that's cool, but I'll always love BH&R.

I will ALWAYS regret not being able to see these guys in 2007 at Vegoose (in Vegas).  I couldn't afford to take the day off work. {#Sad}
I have resented my boss for that since.

Love Muse when I don't actually take much meaning to the lyrics - they never resonate with me. But, the beats and tone of the songs are dramatic and at times, just good ol' fun. Great tracks to keep the spirits up — but not to gain any intellectual wisdom from.
Agree - unfortunately have never seen them live, but saw them on Letterman - they ROCKED!

"shallow"? The album is based on a classic work of literature, George Orwell's 1984, hardly an airport lounge book. There are plenty of criticisms that could, and have, been made of this CD, but "shallow" is one that just can't be justifiably levelled at it. What do you want them to do to be 'profound' - write a musical based on Kafka's Metamorphoses?

I mean the ankle-deep music. Pretentious "oh we're deep" lyrics based on someone else's brilliance doesn't do much for me either. I get more out of listening to Tom Waits sing about The Eyeball Kid.

I think this track is of a piece with the whole theme of the album, which is based on Orwell's 1984. This song makes me think of the part of the book where Winston Smith and Julia get together for sex for the first time. It is a very fine album, with a range of musical influences as you write. 8 from the Nottingham jury for the song, 9 for the album.

Does anyone else think this song is a glorified boy band song? Every time I hear it I think someone switch to a Top 40 radio station.

Yeah...I was hearing the Depeche too.  Good tune.

Just KILLED my buzz from Fotheringay. :-(
Just added this CD to my collection.  I was a bit apprehensive at first but upon listening to the whole recording I was impressed.  True, they wear their influences on their sleeve but it's a pretty awesome effort I reckon.  It's definitely a adventure to listen to.

If you like this, you will like the rest of the album.  This is not Muse's usual sound, but it's a great new style for them!

They just played this drivel yesterday...
I just bought this album last week and I think it's good but not up there with Absolution or Black Holes and Revelations. It seems to me that is somewhat based on Orwell's 1984 and that might be why it's so subdued (for Muse) since they are telling a story.
First to comment? Thanks RP for the eclecticism . Then, this may not be a 10 in my personal list.
