one two three, uhuh
i wake up in the morning its six o'clock
they say there may be rain but the sun is hot
i wish i had some time just to kill today
and i wish i had a dime for every bill i've got to pay
some days you lose you win
and the water's as high as the times your in
so i just back in there where i learned to swim
try to keep my head above it the best i can
that's why,
here i am, waiting for this storm to pass my by
and that's the sound of sunshine coming down
and that's the sound of sunshine coming down
one two three, uhuh
i saw my friend bobby i said "what's up man"
you got a little work or twenty to lend
i opened up my hand he said "i'm glad to see
they can take away my job but not my friends"
here i am, waiting for the storm to pass my by
and that's the sound of sunshine coming down
and that's the sound of sunshine coming down
i wanna go where the summer never ends
with my guitar on the beach there with all my friends
the suns so hot and the waves in motion
and everything smells like sun tan lotion
the ocean, and the girls so sweet
so kick off your shoes and relax your feet
they say that miracles are never seizing
and every single soul needs a little releasing
the sterio bumpin till the sun goes down
and i only wanna hear that sound
that's the sound of sunshine coming down
that's the sound of sunshine coming down
i said you're the one i wanna be with
when the sun goes down
i said you're the one i wanna be with
when the sun goes down
singin you're the one i wanna be with
when the sun goes down

Was that Deacon in the background?
Some of us are in Australia and It's winter. Dick.
Although I am not a fan of Michael's songs, I attended the HSBG festival in SF, and when he played, unlike for all other performers, everyone was dancing. I meam, EVERYONE, young and old. It was such a wonderful experience, essentially a revelation, that I cannot deny Michael's relevance and inspiration to all.
This guy gets on my nerves,

I really like his songs, especially the early, funny ones about the war in Iraq... this one, not so much.

So, you don't like Michael Franti & Spearhead? There's a mute button on your computer — use it.
Rate it according to your feelings. But here's a clue for you — just because you don't enjoy something has NOTHING to do with its intrinsic value. Saying that something sucks says a lot more about YOU than what you're criticizing — and saying that in itself does not consist of a valid critique.
I am a fan, and it's not one of his politically-infused songs, but it's catchy as hell. I happen to enjoy a feel-good song once in a while — there's plenty of feel-bad stuff out there — I find this to be a good antidote to all that.
Michael Franti is a musician who walks his talk — check out www.powertothepeaceful.org for some examples of his work. Check out the DVD he released in 2006 called "I Know I'm Not Alone" subtitled "A Musician's Search For The Human Cost Of War." He flew into Iraq in the middle of the conflict and walked the streets defended only by his guitar. He did the same in Israel and Palestine to try to understand the ongoing conflict there. He mingled with people on the streets and found commonality in music. (It's available on Netflix.)
It's easy to sit back and say something sucks — what have you done to make people smile, laugh, or get up and dance lately? I have tremendous respect for a man like Franti. Not so much for his bashers — they reek of envy.

Please don't try to be a board moderator - Bill & Becky do a good enough job of that already.

Kickin' up the rating for y'all haters below...sunshine indeed!
My kids (11 & 15) love this song. PSD got me "The Doors - Spanish Caravan". Hard to imagine two more different songs. That's one thing the makes RP great!
Amazing coincidence: in the first two choruses the sun shone in on my speakers. Every time the Franti sang "that's the sound of the sun coming down".
For this you must know it is a cloudy and cold November day today.

This is freaking ridiculous. I mean, come on, I respect the hell out of the guy for trying and I believe in his endeavors for human peace and dance and all that.... but what does it say that he walked around Baghdad with his guitar. Tell me, if an Iraqi musician walked around NYC, what would that MEAN? What would it really mean? Not much, would it? Except that there was a guy with the means to do so. Good for him. Palestine is a bit different as people there have more of an affinity for "western" music and that was a cool thing he did there.
Still, I'm here more for music than politics and for me, Franti's charm is best left to 15-35 year old women. They dig him. Good for them.

It's like the recipe was...let's take an existing Michael Franti song, that we may or may not have already made up and try to make it even better than a typical Michael Franti song, but only let's try to make it even happier than that Bobby McFerrin song.
Looks like some others kind of feel like I do on this one.
I am actually a Franti fan but this is pure fluff/crap to the point of being annoying.
What a sell out.
The MF and S songs I like have Sly and Robbie playing along. Sly and Robbie make everyone sound good. Kind of like having Michael McDonald singing backup. lol
I agree, this is about on the level of "don't worry, be happy". I am sure it will be a big hit with mainstream radio and will make them lots of money.

This is a 1/3rd Crop from an Image out of a Nikon D2x @ ISO 800 and underexposed. Not too bad considering.
Sounds just like a tamed down version of his other songs
