What's not to like about this ?  Nothing.

the RP equivalent of the fat guy on the couch guzzling beer and eating chips while watching the Olympics and complaining when the gymnast only scores 9.5
Now a suitable song by Rory Gallagher please.

Okay, but wasn't Derek just a kid? 16, 17?
Derek's got it, it's just something different than what Johnny got.
c.

My 90 minute Favorites listening set
started off with the 1951 version of
"Dust My Broom" by Elmore James.

Good way to end my listening session
on this 60th anniversary cover.

Which I could play a D chord like that.

Saw him way back in '71 at the Va Beach Dome. He knew a bunch of other chords  and notes !
Back in the night Dr Feelgood
I liked Johnny Winter, but this hardly differs from the Elmore James version. In fact, it’s almost a direct copy. OL, but not especially outstanding

Sounds like it was created by a computer.

The replies crack me up.  The RP comment boards are a "safe space" as negative comments are surrounded by bees!
but you can't expect sarcasm to be detected with a blatant comment like that.  (Though I assume it was not to be taken seriously)
Great stuff.  Love JW.     Saw him live many times  (w Edgar, w Derringer, alone) Every show fantastic!

Oh my!

People don't get satire!

Ok...I'll dumb it down.

Johnny Winter is very good.

The Winter Bros
You see..

This is another one of them songs in which you want to walk (or strut) the way it sounds.   That would be cool.
What a guitarist! Watched him in documentary recently, a genuine down to earth guy, such a great loss.

Now THAT is a tune - the Live version...OMG.

To each their own - I like them both.

no more satire

Ugh

Johnny is the shiz!!!

Don't forget he comes from a musical family. His brother is Edgar Winter of the 70's hits Free Ride and Frankenstein fame.

(Sadly, was the shiz. RIP 16Jul14)

Excellent down 'n dirty shitkickin' old skool blues. Brill ;o)
I'd like to hear some Edgar here....
If you're going to listen to a 12 bar blues you could do way worse than this.
bump 8 > 9.  This stuff is off the charts.  Don't care what nobody says.
DANG, that was good!

Without knocking Johnny, "Dust My Broom" is such a fine tune that I have yet to hear a version I don't like, but I'm sure it gets massacred plenty.  That said, the original Elmore James version is the real deal and RP will be all the better after playing it, LOL.
prefer this version by cassandra
Now I'm really depressed.
His covers of Highway 61 just kick ass. Especially the live versions from the 1980s.
I saw Winter in 1971, touring behind "Johnny Winter And Live."

It was a life-changing experience - my first rock show AND my first unsupervised trip out of town.

RIP Johnny.
Just purchased this album. Sounded too good not to.

Idiot Wind indeed!

Know where I can get one of those computers?

{#Devil_pimp}zesty ! now seeing those two together would have been a show !
I just found a vinyl copy of Johnny Winter And in perfect condition.  Pick that one up if you get a chance.  Rock album before the blues stuff.  I think Johnny was like 25 years old and everybody else was no older than 23 including Rick Derringer.  No over the top guitar antics just strait forward R&R buy future badd asses.
Muddy Waters, followed by Johnny Winter.  Sweet!  Only thing better would have been to follow it with JJ Cale  or Leon Russell to keep that good vibe going!  Please play some Okie music soon Bill!!
FANTASTIC
This played at around 17:00 UK time, on a Friday.  Let the weekend begin.
Nasty slide guitar.  Play the blues, Johnny.

Amen, sister.  Seen them twice, and that's not enough.
This song is kickin it today! Awesome!
Let's update these lyrics:

I'd advise you to get yourself a new pair of ears. Only, I fear it would not serve as a remedy.

The slide part of the response sounds a lot like Elmore's style to me...
Not really relevant to ax killers like these, but the lyrics here don't match what he's singing.

woooo-hooooooo man this rock is AWESOME  : )

Also called Mojo Boogie according to a best of collection I have.  Saw him here in Spain a few years back, he could no longer walk unaccompanied but his fingers could still pick.  Brilliant musician and just grateful to have seen him perfrom live.

If you helped create the "formula" it stands to reason you sound a little like it. Johnny was an early master of amped up electric blues. A lot of people copied him. A lot of people still do.

Opening Rift = Immediate Chillbumps.
Dudes oughta learn how to play their damn guitars.... {#Bananajam}
Fantastic.
Very nice together, Derek and Johnny Winter, love his Music since the 70s. Saw them together at the crossroads festival. Very nice, very good.Thank you!
Please, please play more Elmore James!  These guys are good, but EJ is sublime; there is no substitute.
This song ain't over yet, but it's 20 minutes too short.

Great blues
The Wizard moves on to the next level. For me he will always be Still Alive And Well.
Thanks for playing, Bill, in honor of Johnny.  RIP
Good heavens to a smokin' hot blues rock axeman!
RIP Johnny.  You had a good run.  Your contributions to the music you loved will live forever.
RIP Johnny!
