Turned onto this album by college roommates in 1977. This and Watermelon Man are forever favorites.  This is the epitomé of 'In the Pocket.'
Jazz lovers get it.
Mental note to self: Add a real comment on this excellent 10 rated track when you can!

I like the ultra fat analog sound of the hohner clavinet D6! Great!
"Clavinet? It sounds like a frog" was a comment of Elvis Presley  in an interview ... he was right

He was also very FAT at that time!  LOL!

Harvey Mason on drums, played on a lot of the great ones from this era, Bob James, George Benson among others. Bill Summers adds a lot on percussion and, like Mason, can be found on a ton of great songs in several genres. They each released a bunch of stuff on their own through the years as well.

Thank You for the info!

Pure 10-ness from me.

I Agree. Me too!
1974 I came in touch with that in a bar sensibly known as "Bebob". It steered my life a bit.

I've tried, never got into this ditty. It's funky but just doesn't grab me.

Its similar for me, just reminds me of a time and place .... my friends favorite
I was leaning on the duke box in the vault bar Glasgow Scotland which is now not the same place, then it was a mecca of music talent, so this guy whom became my friend Edward Campbell, he told me exactly what he was going to play and asked me to listen i may feel something, in the future we would tour Mexico and Guatemala, this song is a reminder of a memory and a time in my life.

Ya beats are sick. This was just what my consciousness needed. Thx RP again !!
who was the drummer?
Hearing some flavors of early Randy Roos.
I came to Herbie Hancock through Rockit back in the 80s, which I loved for its scratchy funk dance beats. Needless to say it took me a while to warm up to his earlier work, but this I quite like.
