Its amazing how bad this is, gave it a 1. However I love the Frente version and gave it a 9 or 10. Hard to believe its even the same song they do it so differently.

While you often won't get an argument from me in regards to how parochial American attitudes are, you WILL get an argument from me if you imply this is a unique problem that "just the Yanks" have.  It seems I've seen very similar accusations levelled at our friends and allies in the UK... and France... and... hmm, most everywhere else in the world.  Humans are tribal... for eons this has been a social strategy that gave us advantages.  However, like alot of "evolutionary" traits, its value has become increasingly vestigial over time.  Racism is the most extreme example of this.

It appears you are correct that Joy Division and New Order aren't as popular in this country as they are/were in the UK.  This could be for many reasons, not the least of which could be distribution and general lack of exposure in the US (not being an expert in this area, I wouldn't know.  It does make sense though).  I don't think it is an Anti-UK bias, or US protectionism for our artists etc.  Not even close.  Ask anybody of my era at least who their favorite artists are and I bet you'll see at least 50% came from the UK.  And all things considered, I'd say that indicates a significant Anglophile rather than Anglophobe presense.  At least in musical tastes.

So no... I don't buy your argument even a little bit.  As far as the ignoramuses you mention below... shall we share our "embarrassing English" group stories?  Again... we all have idiots we aren't proud of.  Statistically, every x/100 people is a rube I'd rather lock in a closet when guests come over... unfortunately the authorities rather frown on that sort of behavior.

To make a long story short, I take issue with your premise.

This is my favorite song ever! As a young teenager I was bewildered by the lyrics and mesmerized by the synths, to me, it was the music of the future. I used to listen to the entire Substance album and dance around my parents lounge room. A happy memory :)

Love it - 9 You lot moaning need to put this song and much of New Order in context. They were pioneers in terms of bringing electronic dance music to the masses and are often quote as an inspiration to many of the dance/electronica oriented acts of today. Of course some of you will still sneer, but I guess you can't have Bob Dylan and country music all of the time

While I was grown during the 80s it's when I "grew up". There was excess and it was fine at the time. This song will forever be associated with cruising in the first 450SL I ever rode in across the Cape. Smelling the sea air and feeling the still cold June ocean at my toes. So whatever you say about the music, for me it's all about association and there's always a sweet spot for any music associated than with your right of passage...
