Sleepy rhythms were lulling us
Trolling down a long canal
Onto savage shores and gilded floors
Of coliseums through the load-in door

Certain of this one thing
Certain of this one thing
Certain of this one thing
That super slow motion got the upper hand on me
On me
On me

Holy visions had ceased to come
My tongue was numb and I was feeling tired
Crying out in a wordless howl
Screeching off to the underground

Certain of this one thing (of this one thing)
Certain of this one thing (of this one thing)
Certain of this one thing (of this one thing)
That super slow motion got the upper hand on me
On me
On me
On me

Sleepy rhythms were lulling us
Syrup sweet and poisonous
How I found my way back I'm not sure
Through the channels and little streets that curve

Not everyone has the urge to write a comment every time they hear a song, I guess… Only the songs that are either incredibly good or awfully bad tend to gather an endless stream of comments. This one, even though pretty good, is probably not remarkable enough.

This 20+ year old 6.9-rated track has, as of today, generated 150 comments.  This track is neither great, nor crapola.  It just is.  I'd dare to counter than RP listeners love to express themselves; always.  It has some bearing on the goodness or badness...however, my observation seems to indicate that the amount of comments is directly related to the amount of emotional connection that folks feel to a track.

The engineering is well done. Drums are typical, yet in keeping with how things are done these days. Nice!

Also a lot of listeners on Roku, smart TVs etc.
Anyone hearing a subtle Collective Soul falvour somewhere in there?

Or maybe the Wildflowers?  Just sayin.  At least the drum kit.
Can someone please grant Lee that buffalo? :o)
Good song. The album art is very reminiscent of Carter Beats the Devil...
I think it's the 1st time in six years I've heard Grant on RP. He is consistently great.
The only thing wrong with this song is that it isn't twice as long.
Wow. An instant 9 for me.
Well, not remarkable - but certainly I find it enjoyable.
(Hmmm... does the fact that I made a remark, make it remarkable?)

How many comments there are also has a lot to do with how often the song is played. I love Grant-Lee Buffalo & Grant-Lee Phillips but don't recall ever hearing this on RP before.
I increase to from 5 to  7 - Quite Likeable

I really like this song, but the lyrics make me wonder if he's singing about heroin, downers... Not a good thing at all, but hey, great tune!

Worked for Johnny Cash, Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, etc etc but it may have been their perkier, somewhat more "upbeat" tone singing about cocaine...  Nothing wrong with drugs.
fun art on this album cover, still not persuaded by their sound

Agree !
Killer playlist this morning!!! {#Roflol}
summarily bumped to 7! {#Sunny}
I never heard this before... Dig it!
Is anyone ever going to grant Lee his buffalo? Curious and warped minds want to know :o)
Am I the only one who thought this was The Wallflowers?

Nice mid-1990s sound... gems like this are why I tune into RP.

This is good sounding stuff on my Friday afternoon.  Particularly with the Lee Grant connection. Thanks for that.

Nice!!!!!!
Kind of sounds like a young Greg Brown, singing at the Sanctuary Bar in Iowa City.

Love GLP's voice ... great live, too
Soooo goood
Grooooovey!
This reminds me of Buffalo Grill. Happy memories of a cheesy french restaurant serving excellent entrecôtes and an occasional sparerib after a long long day driving during our honeymoon.
tired of this one...

It's a lattice o' coincidence:

"Repo Man" (1984):
Miller and Otto from "Repo Man"

Miller: A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconsciousness.

Otto: You eat a lot of acid, Miller, back in the hippie days?

Miller: I'll give you another instance: you know how everybody's into weirdness right now?...

I love this band and album.  I saw them in Briz-vegas on the tour for Jubilee.  The whole gig was awesome but what stands way out in my memory was the guy they had on piano for My, My, My going absolutely spare on a live spree that blew my then young mind to pieces.
LIKE!
Very nice.{#Biggrin}
Haven't heard this in a while. I like it more. For half the song he sounds like Vedder. Only better. That rhymes. You can use it. Sometimes.

Ditto.  Like Beck, GLP's stuff is new/different sounding to me, yet is still clearly real rock 'n roll.  TFTT RP.

I've heard this more than once, but never quite like this time, and it impressed me mightily; the continually building and releasing ascending crescendos of breath and melody and bass and drums...simply, superbly symphonic in its sonic brilliance, and mind you, I am justly stunned and presently well happy about it!

BadAss
oh, I dig it!

I haven't seen Kristin perform, but I can vouch for Grant!  Saw him at the Belly-Up in Solana Beach CA a couple years ago — he certainly gives it his all, he was soaking wet with sweat when I gave him a hug after the show!  Such a nice guy — and his voice gives me shivers.  {#Hearteyes}

perfect song for how today is moving, before the long weekend, its in SUPERSLOMOTION

I bought this CD when it came out and forgot about it. After listening to this, I might have to dig it out of my CD storage and play it.{#Smile}

And I riff on Norton Buffalo and Donna the Buffalo.

Do not why, cover art reminded me Lenore {#Smile}

Syrup sweet and poisonous

Through the channels and little streets that curve

Nice except the falsetto gets progressively more annoying as the song continues.  Almost need to reach for the volume down button.
Been a while...thanks! {#Daisy}
Just LOVE his voice — I compare it to Tiramisu:  not overly sweet, but refreshing and complex at the same time
yuk. anything original to listen to? hate stupid lyrics.
Why does this song make me happy?
This to Carina Round - Downslow would be a tasty segue

Nice!

this rocks!!! {#Dancingbanana_2}
I really like most GLB songs but this one I dislike.
This dude has the coolest voice; its like Johnny Cash, if he covers a song, he makes it His. Not flaky, whiny or weak; just full of character. I wish him and the two old Jayhawks would get together for something; that'd be cool....

Grant in the same hour as Kristin Hersh!  I saw them together in a small club in Ann Arbor a few years ago.  Both great live performers.
Just picked this up for $5.00 on wed. I thank RP for turning me on to Mr. Grant Lee Phillips.
gosh....brings back so many memories of time past.

LOVE this whole cd. this song especially...

Brilliant song, brilliant album. Saw a show from this tour, was elbows on the stage and was BLOWN AWAY. Fan forever.

Got a little Del Amitri going there at the end. More recent Simple Minds at the beginning. Grant Lee all over, though. Quite likeable.
