Take away my inhibitions
Take away my solitude
Fire me up with your resistance
Put me in the mood
Storm the walls around this prison
Leave the inmates
Free the guards
Deal me up another future
From some brand new deck of cards
Take the chip off of my shoulder
Smooth out all the lines
Take me out among the rustling pines
Till it shines
Like an echo down a canyon
Never coming back as clear
Lately I just judge the distance
Not the words I hear
I've been too long on these islands
I've been far too long alone
I've been too long without summer
In this winter home
Still if we can make the effort
If we take the time
Maybe we can leave this much behind
Till it shines
See the rich man lost and lonely
Watch him as he dines
Sitting there just testing all the wines
Till it shines
Take away my solitude
Fire me up with your resistance
Put me in the mood
Storm the walls around this prison
Leave the inmates
Free the guards
Deal me up another future
From some brand new deck of cards
Take the chip off of my shoulder
Smooth out all the lines
Take me out among the rustling pines
Till it shines
Like an echo down a canyon
Never coming back as clear
Lately I just judge the distance
Not the words I hear

I've been far too long alone
I've been too long without summer

Still if we can make the effort

See the rich man lost and lonely
Watch him as he dines
Sitting there just testing all the wines
Till it shines

Glad I rated this one an 8 and got to hear it in 'My Favorites' - never heard it before and I like it a lot - the 8 stands - LLRP!!
Having grown up in his hometown and having Seger burnout for decades, this one is still a favorite...
I'm trying to reconcile my opinion of Bob Seger with my opinion of RP...
It's not easy. That said, this song isn't too bad.

This is a song I never thought much about until I saw it used in the movie "Mumford" several years ago. Perfect example of how hearing a song in a different context can cause you to re-evaluate it. Since then, it has been one of my favorite Seger tunes.
I also know the song from the same movie. Neither are superb masterpieces, but they are both really nice.
Listening to Bob Seger is like throwing on a long forgotten pair of jeans...some still fit (this song), some are too tight (Old Time Rock n Roll)...

Unexpected, but nice. Thanks BillG!
What he said...
Not earthshattering but a nice retro change of pace.
He has some great ballards...

Okay, though fans of literature and music might both take issue: I used to tell my English classes that Bob Segar was "the most over-rated hack since Shakespeare."
I've since lightened up a bit on both of 'em. But not all that much. . . .
