Sorrow is hooves of rain
Lull it by, lull it by
Oh our lives are poor and plain
Oh my darling lull it by
Oh we met out on the street
Lull it by, lull it by
Now a dream is where we meet
Oh my darling lull it by
Do I love you? Yes, I do
Lull it by, lull it by
Wish I could take care of you
Oh my darling lull it by
Blessings on the east and west
Lull it by, lull it by
And on my bird in your nest
Oh my darling lull it by
When you wake up sad and deep
Lull it by, lull it by
Let my song lull you to sleep
Oh my darling lull it by
And if we never meet again
Lull it by, lull it by
Hold me in your heart, best friend
Oh my darling lull it by
Lull it by, lull it by
Oh our lives are poor and plain
Oh my darling lull it by
Oh we met out on the street
Lull it by, lull it by
Now a dream is where we meet
Oh my darling lull it by
Do I love you? Yes, I do
Lull it by, lull it by
Wish I could take care of you
Oh my darling lull it by
Blessings on the east and west
Lull it by, lull it by
And on my bird in your nest
Oh my darling lull it by
When you wake up sad and deep
Lull it by, lull it by
Let my song lull you to sleep
Oh my darling lull it by
And if we never meet again
Lull it by, lull it by
Hold me in your heart, best friend
Oh my darling lull it by

not enough tunes use the banjo IMHO. can never have too much banjo.
When this song first came on I thought it was Peter Mulvey singing... they sound similar

I thought it kinda sucked...and I agree, it's the end o' the week, get happy!
Voice 8)
LOL, it must definitely be growing on me.
Such as it is, I like it
This is classic Greg Brown, who actually has released 19 albums, more than Tom Waits. Some people think that when they hear an artist they don't know, they assume they ripped another artist off. Little do they know that they are an accomplished artist on their own...................
Greg Brown stands fine on his own, and he is no Tom Waits. He is actually better! So there.........................................
Okay, but it's Friday, Kick Out the Jams!
Tom Waits, call your agent!

on quaaludes, maybe.
i think greg is his own aminal. grrrrr.
Not a good set for the suicide hotline hold music. Paty Griffin hauls up gloom & doom in Cold As It Gets, then this Greg Brown - Lull it By, boo-hoo, sniff, sniff. Oh great. Next up is Go Insane.
There better be some cheer here soon or I'm going to have to go dig out my happy place.

Now that's something I'd like to hear!
to sing a slow, haunitng, sparse song, in my opinion, you should be able to hit and hold the notes without too much wobbling. Seems a prerequisite to me. Unless out-of-tune is a unique selling point. Mind you, it'd be a strange world if we all liked baked beans.

Greg is an acquired taste, somewhat akin to Dylan. I can't stand Dylan but others revere him. I like Greg while others loathe him. Different strokes for different folks.
I like that RP plays stuff that might not appeal to me but appeals to others. I'll put up with the bad stuff (IMHO) in order to hear the good stuff, some of which I might not necessarily have on CD/LP.
My feelings exactly
One of my favorite artists ... Greg's awesome.

Sometimes you just have to stop and listen.
Great song
this is the worst song to play on a Monday morning. it's gonna put me back to sleep
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
OK, i officially downgraded this "song" to a "one" rating, because:
I HATE THIS SONG!!!!
It may be titled Lull it by, but it should be, Lull it to sleep.
i have heard more pleasant sounds when one of my cats drags her claws across a blackboard.
baaaaaaaaaad
Well i'm ready for my nap...
i feel like i just wandered onto the set of "Deliverence"
please, someone wake me up!!

I must've seen him on a bad night. Drunk and rambling (saw him before the show in the club's bar), little or no exchange with the audience, and generally unintelligible. I left after an hour or so. I didn't hate it, just wanted to leave before it got to where I did.
like this song
Another strange/good song. On one hand I kept waiting for the song to get going. On the other, I kept listening, intrigued. It\'s kinda hypnotic.
Thanks, Bill, for another song that corporate radio will never play.
thought he was trying to sing
Erotic City
at first

I think it\'s kinda boring - but unoffensive overall.

Ditto that. Very haunting, especially with the sparse banjo.
