Had to drop this down to a 9 just so I could bump it up to a 10! :)
I wonder how many speeding tickets have been handed out over the years as a result of this song being played. And how many times it took the speeder awhile to notice that there was a highway cop behind them - the volume being so high, and the driver so into the song. It is probably one of the all-time favorite tunes of highway cops needing to make their monthly quota.

It still totally blows my mind that this quintessentially classic jam -- one of my junior-high roller-skate night favorites, and I still love it today -- was done by a non-native English-speaking group that has perhaps had the longest reign of ANY rock band! I worship all their passion, talent, and idiomatic, artistic, musical, and linguistic genius!

American Rock 'n' Roll has to be embarrassed that this song came out of the Netherlands. Britain too. 'Course, if Golden Earring doesn't make it big with this one, then we might not have ever gotten Twilight Zone, which is another swing-and-a-miss from the traditional Rock powerhouses.

Dutch pride, drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk gave a drum clinic to me and some colleagues years ago. Great guy, band still playing in same line-up.
My 8 track did not have this cover.

I was in a bar in San Francisco back in 1991, there was a 3 piece cover band doing 70's stuff. One of the most incredible cover bands I ever saw. They did this and just nailed it. How they got that much sound and energy out of three guys astounded me. Every time I've heard the song since then I think about that experience. Will always be special for me.

Got to see them when they toured for Switch. A most excellent show in a small hall, the Allen Theatre in Cleveland.
