Anybody else hear "Down in the Boondocks" on the instrumental parts?
From the gist of most of the comments it doesn't look like many people stick around long enough to hear it at the end of the song. It was going to drive me crazy trying to place that rift. Thanks!
Mr. Dave is one of the most innovative players going and is always out there taking musical risks. Besides that he is really funny.
He also gave the middle finger salute to big label music after 3 albums with Elektra and sells his stuff on line only at https://www.davidlindley.com/cgi-bin/dlshop.cgi.
For fun take a look at who Mr. Dave has played with...https://www.davidlindley.com/discography.html
Music is great. I'd go higher than a 7 if the lyrics were a bit less repeated.
I think (?) I first heard this album online when KPIG started streaming - it may have been BillG playing it for all I know. Before that I had figured David L. had disappeared or something.
There's lots of fun stuff on this CD. Like "More Than Eva Braun".

yuk - perhaps the lyric "Way Out West in Kansas" needs to be repeated a little more in this song...
Yeah, and I was born in a small town (in Indiana) and I still dislike John Mellenchumps music. It is too repetitive. It is too repetitive.

The fact that he's one of probably the top five or ten guitarists alive might have something to do with it.
Go see him if you ever get the chance. He is fantastic live. Never have you seen such outrageous polyester menswear. :)
The boy ain't lyin'. Pictures here

And also pics of PART of his instrument collection. Crazy stuff.

Perfect "eclectic" tune for Radio Paradise. David is the man. He plays anything with strings and I like the collaboration with Hani Naser. Nice pick, Bill!

What you said, yeah
I'm guessing this was played on oud (middle-eastern fretless lute), not guitar. It's nice to hear this mixture of near-eastern backing with a very American-sounding song. Probably some of my taste for Balkan music coming through.
Thanks God it ended ...

I still hear it. Guess it's just me.
I don't need to hear it a *lot*, but much like Bela Fleck and the Smiths, it's nice mixed with other stuff.

Kansas is East, not West

This guy sounds kinda like what Courtney Love would sound like if she were a male folk/bluegrass singer.
nuff said....

Would love Bill to take this off the play list! Sounds like a song you would sing at camp!
Oh, c'mon! We'll have smores and everything -- it'll be great!!

That's my STATE! Never heard this song before.
Mr. Dave made my day
Lindley is an awesome slide-man. Awesome side-man, too.
This is a refreshing change from his reggae-beat El Rayo X things, which were very good, too.
" Way out East in Kasmir..."
8)
dig it. nice tune.
Nice mix of musical traditions.
"Love is real not fade away.".... wait that's not the right words... same beat though.
You've just got an attitude because there's that hill between KC and Topeka before the state turns tabletop flat.
Hard to believe that western Kansas could be the inspiration behind a song.
