This is a ridiculous conversation.  Do you think Toots felt Willie couldn't do reggae when he recorded this with him?  If he has Toots' (and the Maytals') endorsement, then Willie most definitely CAN do reggae and so can anyone else.  Reggae, as with every other artform, is open to expression by any human who chooses that medium.   If you don't understand that, you don't understand art

When Willie's voice comes in, the effect is like reaching for your glass of beer and realizing - only after you take a big swig - that it is your wife's glass of iced tea instead.

I like both iced tea and beer, but getting a mouthul of one when you expect the other is jarring in a visceral way for a second or two.

'Countryman' is a very fun album that Willie made a number of years ago too.  Very fun to play jungle golf to. Gotta love Toots and gotta love Willie.  I'm sure that they had fun in the studio!

This cracks me up, I like it. Willie is cool, but his phrasing seems way off, as does his gargling La La's... reggae is not really his gig. but I don't care, its still moving to me :)

In a similar vein, just as silly, just as incongruent, and just as fun, is one of the duets Willie did with Snoop Dog, Superman. Old guy is pretty cool.

Wow, unusual.  One time I had an eggroll but no sweet-and-sour sauce for dipping so I used some yellow mustard.  It was OK but the flavors were just not made for each other.  This song strikes me that same way.

I'm from Texas and I can remember when Willie didn't have 1,000 wrinkles and had a short crew cut singing his very first hit, "Hello Walls". 

To this day no one can screw-up the vocal smoothness of a song like Willlie Nelson.

I put Willie and Neil Young in the self-same, "Can someone buy me some voice lessons?" category.
