Sure … this is a dated reply, just as sure as you must be unfamiliar with Shivaree’s repertoire. If only they would make more music!
What ev ...
Hooray for KCRW!
When I'm the job working, they are my lifesaver for great music.
Unfortunately, they only play music from 9:00 am to noon on weekdays.
The book is always better than the song.
I first heard this song on RP and I checked the song and I downloaded it 11 YEARS AGO.  I have listened to it a hundred times and still love it.
Thanks Bill.  You have made the last dozen years much better!!
Great Song and voice.

You just tell him what to play!

Haunting and beautiful! {#Hearteyes}

This is, like, the weirdest possible complaint.
Just LOVE Shivaree.

Sure beats all those insignificant english songs now doesen't it ?
Sounds a lot like Marcella Detroit, but I guess that's a good thing... 7.

Love this song.  It's one of the first songs I heard on Radio Paradise and it was in Oct - right around Halloween.

Rrrr, tres tres bon DJ, c'est semble un peux de Amy W, merci encore. Smmooooth :)

I was surprised to discover this book was published in 1947!!  It was featured recently on Mad Men — the current season is set around 1966.  I thought I caught them on a goof.  I did not have this book in my childhood (I had Dr. Suess and vintage Oz books), and only heard of it in the last 8 years, from my friends reading it to their children.  It certainly has stood the test of time!

Not that it matters, but Britney Spears' debut album was probably released before Shivaree's.  I don't think they sound alike at all.

The entire studio album on which this song originated is great, too. Support the artist *and* RP - click on thru to Amazon and buy it! The album is I Oughta Give You a Shot in the Head for Making Me Live in This Dump. You can pick one up used, from 24 cents plus shipping! My favorite song on IOGYASITHFMMLITD is definitely Cannibal King, the album opener. And you'll recognize Bossa Nova, although you won't know you do from the name alone! Yummy!! {#Tongue}

Thank you for this! {#Cheers} I can't put another thing on my credit card, but once I get it paid down, this will be one of the things I buy.

Agreed! Love the sound!

I have to get some Shivaree!

I actually prefer the studio recording over this one.   Both, however, are outstanding,      {#Clap}
Could a song be any sexier??

Ambrosia Parsley...and while you're at it, find me a better name.

I really like this song a lot, but ever since I noticed it, I can't shake the fact that her voice makes her sound exactly like Britney Spears.

Loving the live version, too.
Adds an ominous overtone to the quirky but benign book that I used to read to my little ones at bedtime. Great voice, too.

Nice song for Halloween today. Nice song for any day
So sweeeeeet!
Great version!!!  Thankyou RP !  never heard this one before...
Shivaree: a noisy mock serenade (made by banging pans and kettles) to a newly married couple. Hmmm...

Love it!

I've also always enjoyed this song on RP. I hope Bill never takes it out of rotation. It comes on just enough to be a treat to catch, but not enough to be annoying.

I'm reminded of Gwen Stefani. I like Gwen Stefani.
Wow, this one really got my attention!  Makes me want to get up and dance a rumba!  Fabulous for Friday.
Always loved this tune!!!!!!!!

Great!!! thanks for picking up this version. (taking modest bow for 2005 suggestion to do so)
...from the moment this started playing i was really curious if we were about to hear someone else's cover of this song - kind of a casio autoaccompaniment thing going on in this live rendition...
Shivery! Caught my attention from the beginning
I like it. She's got a sultry voice that should not be filtered through the technology of a studio album.
this version is better than their own album cut version, I think -- edgier and more focused, like they'd learned more about the song since the original recording.
