You better think (think)
Think about what you're tryin' to do to me
Think (think-think) let your mind go
Let yourself be free

Let's go back - let's go back
A let's go way on to way back when
I didn't even know you
You couldn't a been too much more than ten (just a child)

I ain't no psychiatrist
I ain't no doctor with degrees
But it don't take too much I.Q.
To see what you're doing to me

You better think (think)
Think about what you're tryin' to do to me
Yeah, think (think-think)
Let your mind go, let yourself be free

Oh freedom (freedom)
Oh freedom
Oh,freedom (yeah)

Oh freedom
Oh freedom (freedom)
Oh freedom
Oh freedom

Oh ya got to have
Hey! think about it
You! think about it

There ain't nothin' you could ask
I could answer you with "I won't" (I won't)
But I was gonna change my mind
If you keep doin' things I don't (don't)

You better think (think)
Think about what you're tryin' ta do to me
(What you're tryin' to do to me)
Oh-oh-oh think (think)
Let your mind go, let yourself be free

People walk around everyday
Playin' games and takin' scores
Tryin' to make other people lose their mind
Well, be careful you don't lose yours

Ooh think (think)
Think about what you're tryin' to do to me
Woo-hoo, think (think)
Let your mind go, let yourself be free

You need me (need me)
And I need you (don't cha' know)
Without each other
There ain't nothin' either can do

Oooh yeah, think about it, baby
(What 'cha tryin' to do to me, think)
Better go baby, think about it right now

Yeah, right now (tell about - forgiveness)
Woo, right now (tell about - forgiveness)
Hey, right now (tell about - forgiveness)
I need to change your mind (think about it)
Baby, baby, baby
(Tell about it - forgiveness)
Woo, tell about it baby (tell about - forgiveness)
FADES-
Yeah, woo-hoo (tell about - forgiveness)
Tell about it baby, you think about it right now

Bring back the '60s music.
Oh Aretha
This is great - but the Blues Brothers version knocks spots off it!
morphine Buena then Aretha think  cool segue!
Great tune but Rock Steady is still the one that gets me up every time...love bass line

Great AF quote from the end of that scene:
"Shit."
Finest Female Funk.
Another song from the era that seems to short, but it's still satisfying because she and her colleagues packed so much into one song!

Yes, she was, but her family left Tennessee when she was around two years old.  She grew up in Detroit.
I suppose there are people who think Ms. QueenOfSoul is overrated too...
Goodness gracious! What a voice!!!

True, the Motown recordings sounded great and had outstanding musicians, but Aretha recorded the majority of her records with Atlantic Records.  She was never signed to Motown Records; Atlantic had their own collection of incredible studio musicians and producers as well.
R.I.P. Aretha, The Queen of Soul.
There's a Third Bass song that takes this piano lyric. That would be a great segue...
Encore, encore!
Mariah Carey, listen up. THIS is how you do it.
I can still see the shuffling bedroom slippers in the diner sequence.

One of the earliest film-related memories I have is of the older 6 of us kids clustered around the TV watching Aretha sing and dance in the kitchen, while the guy stands on the diner counter and plays the sax.

You better think about the consequences of your actions!

A really appropriate song for today. Thanks RP.

Somewhere in the music I can hear the bells.Want a ring?
Just watched a great documentary about Muscle Shoals on Netflix.  She had been working for 5 years without success until Jerry Wexler brought her down to Alabama to record - the rest is history{#Notworthy}
"Are you gentlemen the Police?"

"No ma'am...we're musicians"
That is so so good!  From a classic movie, too.

Thanks for the morning smile.

something from 'Young, Gifted And Black' would be nice too

No ma'am, we're musicians.

What kind of music do you usually have here?

Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western.

Awesome Independent Lens program on PBS last night about Muscle Shoals. Was this recorded there?

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

There are icons, and there are icons.  Aretha. She doesn't even need a last name - you can just walk into a room of people and say, "Aretha" and I bet every person there would know to whom you were referring.

I love Aretha - as I've related (countless times), I was deprived of "soul" music as a youngster, because of very bigoted parents. I didn't even know who she was until I got out of high school.  Once those chains were broken, I "discovered" her, and holy cow - this woman could sing the rings off Saturn.

Well, my appreciation is better late than never.  This song is a solid 10. {#Notworthy}

I agree...  well said...  miss you...

Wheww...I needed that...

Didn't like it when it was new; like it less now.

Glad to see her looking much better. {#Yes}

Thanks!  This song just lifted my spirits (a lot)!!
