One... two...
Steal my heart... and hold my tongue
I feel my time... my time has come
Let me in... unlock the door
I never felt this way before
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummer begins to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know which way I've come
Hold my head... inside your hands
I need someone... who understands
I need someone... someone who hears
For you I've waited all these years
For you I'd wait... 'Til Kingdom Come
Until my day... my day is done
And say you'll come... and set me free
Just say you'll wait... you'll wait for me
In your tears... and in your blood
In your fire... and in your flood
I hear you laugh... I heard you sing
I wouldn't change a single thing
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummers begin to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know what I've become
For you I'd wait... 'Til kingdom come
Until my days... my days are done
Say you'll come... and set me free
Just say you'll wait... you'll wait for me
Just say you'll wait... you'll wait for me

I don't get the negativity on this track, it is very moving and well done imho. BillG: I think this deserves a spin on main!

I loved 'A Rush of Blod to the Head' but did not like any of the albums on either side of it. I found them bland and way too soft. Chris Martin has the annoying characteristic of wanting to sing songs in high notes and yet his voice is not built for that kind of register. Pity, though, as he was poised to become the future of British rock. Well, there's still Kasabian and The Zutons.

Well put. I didn't recognize them either - I kept thinking, I know I know this band, but who is it? Nice sound for them. Those first notes, after all the talk of JC's 'Hurt' on God is an Astronaut made me think that this was gonna be 'When the Man Comes Around'. really kinda got me... am hard put to like this song now...

Where are all the Dylan and Neil Young critics when you really need them? This guy has one weak voice. Emotionless and, well...cold
I think everybody can think of a band that everyone seems to like but themselves...cold play is that for me, they just don't do it for me.

lyrics are fine, but this rendition is WEAK! the singing here is on par with Kevin Costner's/ Keeanu Reeves wooden acting . .

I first heard this during a news story about our troops overseas, giving this song more poingnancy than it already has. I want our troops home and the vast majority of the US feels the same, I'll wager. I will wait, but I am very tired of waiting. Is anyone in DC listening?

This is my least favorite album of theirs, but as far as this song, i've heard much worse, give them some credit.
It takes so long to establish credibility for us, the music fans, that all these criticisms seem a little guarded and premature. We are critical by nature, and more so by media and peer influence. I love Weezer and Led Zeppelin, but it doesn't mean they put out a perfect album every time. It took Weezer 10 years to get the recognition they deserved. Some people don't count the Pink Floyd albums after Roger Waters left as "real" Pink Floyd music.
I think all the one-hit-wonders of the last 10 years have really scarred us, and cheese bands like Creed make us scoff at the idea that there could be a good rock band with solid lyrics and great accompaniment, with talent and lasting potential to back it up.
But here is one. Good song.
Have to say that I didn't really rate this song until I heard them play it live in Perth Australia last week and they segued it into "Ring of Fire" which was just perfect. I have since listened to the song and hear it in a totally different light

I really appreciated coldplay most in the previous album, a rush of blood to the head...more passion, more honesty...even if this one surely show how they learned to make a fist of songs that works....
Quite possibly my favorite Coldplay track - from any of their albums. The lyrics haunt me.

It's so weird because I used to think they were a cheap knock-off of Radiohead until this album. But the Grammys (when they played back to back) was an example of how they are clearly trying to emanate U2 now. Someone reviewing the show said something like how U2 came on after Coldplay and showed them how to be U2.
You wonder if there was a conscious decision about it.
I'm not normally a Coldplay fan - to me, they sound like U2 without the rock and roll. But this is a nice little song.
Reminds me of how Ian McCulloch sounds on his "Slideling" solo album.

What, I'm not allowed to group people? Damn. Are you trying to tell me that you, in fact, don't dislike Coldplay? I guess I must have misunderstood your comment about 'another... song from Coldplay'.
I appreciate that 'song comments' should be for both positive and negative comments, though I wish yours was a little more constructive/instructive, and a little less... brutal? But, you have a point, too. If you want to keep it simple, there's room for that. So, my apologies. You have my blessing to rag on any old song that comes along, especially Coldplay. Is it my youth that allows me to enjoy them? Lucky 'bub'.

I wish instead of filling up the song comments with remarks about how they're just a poor imitation of Radiohead, or they don't like Chris Martin's falsetto, these guys would start your own forum, so they can actually tell someone who cares... Call it 'Coldplay Haters', or something equally clever to go with your complaints.

COLDPLAY wrote a song for JOHNNY CASH that wasn't finished before he died.
The band are massive fans of Johnny Cash, who died earlier this year. According to singer Chris Martin, they recorded a song for the country legend, but he didn't manage to complete the vocals before his passing.
"We did a song for Johnny," he told the band's official website. "We recorded it with Rick Rubin and everything and all that was missing was his vocals. He was going to fly out to LA the week after he died. It's really sad."

Agree. It may be based on an old Scottish folk tune, sounds so familiar. And that's OK by me. Simplicity in itself is not a bad thing, esp. when the message is one of love.MindyLeigh wrote:

When you know EXACTLY what he's going to say before he sings it, you know that you are being subjected to a bad lyric. And in this case it's not supported by an interesting melody either.
I think there can be great beauty in simplicity -- once you're able to let go of your ego and the fear that others might judge you as simple-minded because of your musical taste.
(I used to hate Tom Petty because his music wasn't as complex as Sting's -- he's one of my favorites now -- just based on raw feel.)
Reminds me of Journey lyrics
Steal my heart and hold my tongue.
I feel my time, my time has come.
Let me in, unlock the door.
I've never felt this way before.
The wheels just keep on turning,
The drummer begins to drum,
I don't know which way I'm going,
I don't know which way I've come.
Hold my hand inside your hands,
I need someone who understands.
I need someone, someone who hears,
For you, I've waited all these years.
For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come.
Until my day, my day is done.
And say you'll come, and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
In your tears and in your blood,
In your fire and in your flood,
I hear you laugh, I heard you say,
"I wouldn't change a single thing."
The wheels just keep on turning,
The drummers begin to drum,
I don't know which way I'm going,
I don't know what I've become.
For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come,
Until my days, my days are done.
Say you'll come and set me free,
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.

Usually Coldplay just is too damn whiney but his song works.

Just because a singer has a falsetto, it doesn't mean he's trying to imitate Thom Yorke.
If you listen to the music, Coldplay really isn't like Radiohead at all. One glaring example: Radiohead is known for their use of computerized effects, electronic bits of sound, in their music, whereas such effects are quite absent in the music of Coldplay.
Everything's been done before. All artists find inspiration in those that came before. Sometimes bands will create a sound unknown before them (as Radiohead did so well); others will simply put their own twist on a form of music already known. Both groups have their influences, and both work them into their own creations in some way or another. Neither is the poorer for it.
After all, in the end, isn't it the passion for creating music that really matters?

The observation is right on in my opinion. On this new album it appears that they have lost something, but are still an excellent band with a unique and a distinctive sound, something that does not happend often enough these days with well known bands.

Interesting... I thought this was one of the first Coldplay songs that centered well within their abilities - particularly the singing. There was no whining, no high-pitched waa-ooo's, no attempts to sing outside of his limited vocal range. Certainly, it's not a world-ignitor, but I enjoyed the restraint.
hm... I was getting kinda enthused about the new CD based on the few other tracks I've heard. Not so much with this one. Rather lacking any sort of real inspiration. I think the previous post was right on... they're on a journey to invetible mediocrity (many would argue they're already there)
