It's goin' all around town.
Looks like your latest toy gone an
Put you down.
Well it won't be long,
'Fore you come crawling on home.
Like some old dog with your tail on the ground.
I'm listenin' to your Beg and your Plead.
Don't fill my heart with no pity.
What makes you think I'm gonna take you back again,
I ain't your Repo Man.
Used to be,
Just you and me.
So young and in love,
Just like it was meant to be.
Well it didn't take long,
Fore' I begin to see,
That you got eyes for every man on the street.
I'm listenin' to your Beg and your Plead.
Don't fill my heart with no pity.
What makes you think I'm gonna take you back again,
I ain't your Repo Man.
It's like you think I got revolvin' doors on my house,
Like you can just come and go as you please.
I'm 'bout to do what your daddy shoulda done,
I'm gonna lay you right across my knee.
I work like a devil,
Every night and every day,
Bustin' my back,
Just to make my pay.
Now where is your woman you ask,
'Cause, as they say, while the cat's away...
I'm listenin' to your Beg and your Plead.
Don't fill my heart with no pity.
What makes you think I'm gonna take you back again,
I ain't your Repo Man
Always saw Iggy Pop's "Repo Man" as the theme song. Better than LaMontagne's song.
Whatever happened to Jonny Lang?
and possibly have an adult beverage
love to see this live
You're thinking of that other Ray LaMontagne song.
Nein, Ballsack.
Ray
Elvis C
Louis Prima
Stray Cats
yup, I'm shakin' it this morning
Agree, for some reason that's where my mind went. THe guitar progression I guess?
That is the most awesome Joe CockerMontagne that you are referring to.
Ray rocks.Great tune.
Hardly. I mean, it's a fun tune and all, but.....no. Not even close. I suggest you take another listen to pretty much any song on ANY Stevie Ray album made during his career.
for me it's always been Joe-Ray L' Bonomontagne
how true there rabbi, where ever you are, joe bonamassa is touring right now and I have tickets (yay) 175.00 for nose bleeds...that's ok. it would be awesome to see him team up with ray. cant believe no one's put that together yet. specially after seeing bonamassa's acoustic night at Vienna (on pbs that is). what a combo that would be
"Repo men are always intense!"
Great soundtrack to a great movie.
Certain people I know used to prank call innocents in the middle of the night and play choice cuts from this soundtrack. We're just going to have to hound Bill into playing something off of this disc.
Yeah!
the mouse
must either go to Mar(r)s,
or
Sir Montagne must be a mouse.
PS
Truth - no DADA!
Can I have the number of your dealer?

yeah, I know. I was just...wait,...what?
for me it's always been Joe-Ray L' Bonomontagne
Pretty cool.
No.
Let's go get sushi and not pay.

(Good song.)
And who were they copying? Eternal return of the same...
So if LaMontagne's stuff is "eternal return of the same", then he's not really risk taking, is he? You contradict yourself.
He's just apeing a few specific sounds and styles (Joni, Dylan, and Cocker), not creating his own.
So, you'd say it's "risk taking" to copy Joni, Dylan, and Cocker, ie. that which has been done 8000 times before?
And who were they copying? Eternal return of the same...

Really? Please.
And what is it that is so grand and original that you do my friend, other than be your unwarranted critical self?
No, it actually IS the best track on an otherwise sleepy album.
Me too. Me too. That's a tight band he's got there.

Yesterday i watched the "show" the allocation of Music Awards, with the illusion (believer, I) from anyone watching something interesting. Lost time. Very "bright", great "makeup", very "sight of fire", very "glamorous-hollywodesc", (very similar to the production of the Oscars) and about the essence of music, little or nothing. The music industry associated with awards living in a closed circuit. A disappointing hassle. Probably i draw a personal perspective and not very tolerant. It is also true that artists, especially those new talent need to rely on these awards to encourage them and gain prestige and name (M.& Sons). Anyway, this "party" is more like the "Eurovision-Contest" in Europe. But because in the U.S. is worse.
I do not know and i think nobody knows the criteria and strategy for the selection of artists, but it is certainly the purest commercial interest of publishers and industry and the internal market first of all. Not missed until some "Hollywood film stars", swaying hips, and to prove to the snob interest of "being in the hollers" in "wave".
You can also ask why artists like Robert Zimmerman and ´Stone´Jagger lent themselves to brighten the festival ...
well, i know that mediocrity is not contagious, it is not for artists to have prejudices, or establish criteria or scale of values, it is up to the public. Furthermore they were paid to perform on stage. In addition, the organization sought to save and make it attractive a poor spectacle. If RP reflected (only) the criterion of the Awards, it was better to close or never existed. Thank God for RP is guided by other perspectives and values.
And, Ray, do not be disappointed because these ´people of awards´ do not deserve you. Ray La M. have the fact that one of the best musical albums produced in 2010! called "God Willin' & The Creek Don't Rise", and that nobody can take away.
I like this a lot more. Ray's coming around.
I find that Ray LaMontagne is one of the few fresh faces in an otherwise unimpressive music industry these days. I don't like all of the directions he is going in, but I admire him for branching out and not putting out the same album over and over again. We don't see the kind of risk taking anymore that we saw with the Beatles and other artists who kept reinventing themselves in order to keep the genre evolving.

No way (with me)!
PS
Haaaate this wiskey-voice!

HAHA, Bill just quoted your comment, how cool is that!!!
Too bad he doesn't know he's a beautiful person!
I always heard,
"As God is my witness, come hell or high water, though the creeks may rise."
I love the entire album, but I think I like my oath better.
great late Friday afternoon groove... gets me in the mood...!
I've read that his major influences were Joe Cocker, Joni Mitchell, and a couple others I don't recall.
Gotta agree with that. I'm bumping up to a nine too. Besides, I love the concept of the RepoMan!

I think it's the old, edgy Ray. The Ray without the slick production of his of-late collaborator Ethan Johns.
I'm glad he ventures out but it does seem like he is out of his league on this one, much less his comfort zone. I do want to hear the rest of this album though. Your fave and a few others are pretty good. I think he produced so apparently liked it better than other efforts.
That's just what I was thinking while I listened to this 1st cut off the new album for the first time. Then track #2 started and it was back to sleepy Ray.
I guess it takes a lot out of him to kick a song like this one. I'm still loving this whole work by him. As shy and withdrawn as he is, this stint with Pariah Dogs might be stretching his boundaries. If so, I love it. And I still love the "sleepy Ray" too...
Bud: Credit is a sacred trust, it's what our free society is founded on. Do you think they give a damn about their bills in Russia? I said, do you think they give a damn about their bills in Russia?
Otto: They don't pay bills in Russia, it's all free.
Bud: All free? Free my ass. What are you, a fuckin' commie? Huh?
Otto: No, I ain't no commie.
Bud: Well, you better not be. I don't want no commies in my car........... No Christians either.

I like this track. Need to hear more of the album please RP.
You beat me to it, couldn't agree more. I was hoping there'd be more like this first track, but was a little disappointed.
