I need love as big as an ocean
I need love that can't be crossed
A love in perpetual motion
I need a love that won't get lost

Do you know where this love can be found?
Do you know where this love can be found?
Open up your eyes; take a look around
Do you know where this love can be found?

'Cause I'm a full-grown man
And I'm lookin' for a big love
I need a love gonna move this mountain
I need a love that I can't hide away
I need a love gonna lift me up to that drinking fountain

Just like my daddy did in my younger days
Now is this love gonna get up off the ground
Is this love gonna get up off the ground
I need a fifty-foot woman to wrap these arms around

Is this love gonna get up off the ground
'Cause I'm a full-grown man
And I'm looking for a big love
I never did just a little drinking

I could drink the Milky Way
Think small and your heart starts shrinking
I'm here to stay
Got to have your big love

I got to have it right away
I need love as big as an ocean
I need a love that can't be crossed
I need love in perpetual motion
I need a love that don't get lost

'Cause I'm a full-grown man
And I'm looking for a big love

just about anything with John Hiatt is great.
Never heard of this super-super group! That's why we love RP!
I need to dig out my CD again! thanks for the jumpstart!
Excellent!! I never heard of them before! Thank YOU RP!  PS: I just read the WIKI, what a line-up of people! I don't know how I never heard of them before!
I don't like Blues much. But I LOVE this.
Production quality is excellent. I'd say the average rating is accurate... Added to speaker testing playlist.
Was having trouble breaking thru to a guy I'd just started dating. So after bit o' the devils weed, I played this song for him, loud.  The man got the message. Thanks, Mr. Hiatt, and all the other amazing musicians on this track, for giving me one unforgettable evening, and several amazing months afterwards.
Love it! Thanks for playing this.
When this CD came out, I played the hell out of it.  I'm a John Hiatt fan but the combo musicians in Little Village really worked for me at the time.  It's got some staying power.
Great slide guitar on this one.
Love anything with Ry Cooder in it
Gospel if you have ears to hear it.
First couple of riffs sounded like acoustic The Who - "Behind blue eyes".

I used to be a huge Hiatt fan. He never hit a wrong note with me. Some friends started a fan club, that's how much we revered him. Then one day, quite a while after this album came out, I realized I just didn't care anymore. No warm feelings for his old stuff, even. I used to love "the Nick Lowe side" of "Riding With the King." Now it all sounds awful. I'm not lowering my ratings, but I can't think of any other act that's fallen so far in my world. *shrug* Lots of great music out there.

Hmmm. This exchange reminds me of the time a couple of decades ago when all my Levis suddenly shrank at about the same time. It was weird man. I told somebody about this strange occurrence.
They said: "Really? All of them? The same amount, at the same time?"
I said: "Yeah! How's that even possible?"
They said: "Well..., what makes you think it's the Levis?"
I said (squinty-eyed): "What do you mean?"
(eyes widening) "Oh.” “Oh, yeah." "Oh... crap."
And for the first time in my life I went out and bought a scale.

Peace.

It don't make no nevermind who plays the blues. Colour has sweet fuck all to do with it.
Good is good.
So it's a Wednesday night and I'm coming off a poo-storm day, week, month. Drinking red wine and listening to RP when I really should be thinking about sleep. And then this song comes on.
1) How is it that I've never heard this before??
2) RP somehow always knows what I need
3) Music feeds the soul
4) This is John Hiatt??  See 1) above
5) Turning it up. Sleep? Who needs it!

That is unfortunate.  Not the case for me.  He is stellar in my world.  Although I was shock when a close friend said he couldn't stand his voice.  Tastes change, they grow, it's all good, it makes us who we are.
A great collaboration.

They can't jump, either.
Nobody slide like Ry do. Recently saw John Hiatt with the fabulous Sonny Landreth on slide, but these original tracks are awfully sweet.

I agree! That album is a result of a one off project of very talented and experienced, mature musicians. Wonderful example of serving the songs.

Fur sure. Bleh.

Little Village was pretty much ripped up one side and down the other because it didn't have the same ambiance as Bring The Family. I think the critics missed the point. Hiatt's album was Hiatt's album—he called the shots. Little Village was a conscious collaboration. The sense of it had to be different.

I saw them at the Paramount Theater in Denver following this release.  Jim Keltner has to be one of the most versatile drummers in the music business.  Too bad they could not actually keep it up but getting that many talented guys together and be creative is a tough job, Cooder and Hiatt been on there own too long.

Great Line-up of musicians.....

Little Village was an American/British rock band, formed in 1991 by Ry Cooder (guitar, vocal), John Hiatt (guitar, piano, vocal), Nick Lowe (bass, vocal) and Jim Keltner (drums). Each of the group's members had previously worked on Hiatt's 1987 album Bring The Family, and formed in 1991 while on a break from their own musical projects.

Nice - thanks for the info

Really - nothing ruins your morning more than that?  Not a car accident, a speeding ticket on the way to work, having to go without coffee, missing your train?  However, this song is pretty weak and generic-sounding, especially considering the personnel involved, but it wouldn't ruin my morning.
Meh. There have been a multitude of songs about the exact same subject, and with a big ton more musical energy and vocals.
Maybe he could have had two little ones instead?
I am definitely a JH fan, but this is my least favorite track with him.

Both the lyrics and music were below par - at least compared to his other work {#Frown}

Why does that matter?  Sounds great to me, no matter what kind of skin pigment he has in his body.
I got the "Big Love" for this song. They are  Like the "dream team" so good. 8

I thought this was going to start, "I'd gladly lose me to find you/I'd gladly give up all that I had ..."  Same bass line.
Talk about mudflaps, my girl's got 'em.
Sweet.............BIG LOVE!
'nother great one is Solar Sex Panel.  I just love how Keltner plays.  So cool.
