Another beautiful song from an amazing album.

In this song alone Rosalía sings in Spanish, Latin, and Japanese; with Dougie F contributing some English lyrics too.

The song is referencing the Japanese monk Ryōnen Gensō, who left a life of wealth and multiple arranged marriages to devote herself to Buddhism. However, she was initially turned away from a life of religious devotion because she was apparently too distractingly attractive for the other people [men] in the temple. In response she burned her own face so she could be accepted as a disciple. This is likely what Rosalía is referencing with the Japanese lyrics:
"I'll tear my off my beauty, before you do it for me, If you think I'm crazy, that's my gift I was born with, queen of chaos, because my god made me this way".

As with all the songs on this album, they are musically and lyrically complex, often exploring spirituality, theology, and the struggles of being a woman in various cultures throughout history in very thought provoking ways. While the layers and ideas within this song maybe be a bit too much to think about for some RP listeners, for others of us she's created a very fascinating album.
