not a documentary...but definitely a rock movie.... "cadillac records."  rent. it.  if you don't know this part of rock and roll history, you need to.  (hollywood took some license with certain events, but, for the most part, it's pretty accurate)

Even my non-New York Dolls-fan wife enjoyed this.

Fascinating, entertaining, poignant. Strong recommendation.

Beach Boys ~ Herb Alpert ~ Nancy Sinatra ~ Sam Cooke ~ Jan & Dean ~ Glen Campbell ~ Righteous Brothers ~ Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" ~ The Monkees ~ many more....

What is the Wrecking Crew?

The Wrecking Crew were a group of studio musicians in Los Angeles in the 60s who played on hits for the Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny and Cher, Jan & Dean, The Monkees, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Mamas and Papas, Tijuana Brass, Ricky Nelson, Johnny Rivers and were Phil Spector's Wall of Sound. The amount of work that they were involved in was tremendous.

HBO adapting record biz's 'Self-Destruction''
Victoria Stewart to pen script based on Knopper book

By Nellie Andreeva and Jay A. Fernandez

Nov 2, 2009, 11:00 PM ET
The rise and fall of the U. S. record industry could be the subject of an HBO film.

HBO Films is developing a movie based on the book "Appetite for Self-Destruction: The Spectacular Crash of the Record Industry in the Digital Age" by music journalist Steve Knopper.

Playwright Victoria Stewart is penning the adaptation, which is being produced by Bob Cooper.

"Self-Destruction" spans 30 years, beginning with the crash of the disco craze in the late 1970s, through the CD boom in the late 1980s and 1990s, the music industry's battle with Napster and other free file-sharing online services in the 2000s and the sharp decline in sales of CDs, which have been replaced by digital downloads.
