"Hate" isn't even a word in my vocabulary much less in my attitude toward people of another opinion or "lifestyle." "Futility" , however, is. Anwyay, as a straight person, and someone who could be accused of "driving" an agenda I'd like to point something out regarding your statement.  You say that understanding and acceptance will never come about through legislation.  I think that is correct.  For example, the Kansas family that protests at soldier funerals - the laws that support their rights as citizens does not encourage me to like them, is not some kind of hidden driven agenda.  It does not legislate my feelings, and indeed it does nothing to hamper my dislike, and the feelings of superiourity I feel when I hear about them.  But the law is very simple.  We are all equal under the law, and as citizens, that includes people I hate.   For me it looks like this:  some people think they are better than others, and should dictate which rights are for some, and which for others.  They disparge and mettle, complain and hold themselves higher.  Asking for equal rights under the law is not a scary agenda.  It's the right thing to do, and I don't doubt that if you or I would gay, we would be asking for just that.  Continue to dislike gays, if you wish, but I think you shouldn't let it get in your way of supporting the rights of all people to live in peace, and with equal protection under the law.

It's a simple matter, really. Literally multiple millions of people (not necessarily all conservative) do not and will never accept a "gay" lifestyle, no matter what the driven agenda. In some places the anti acceptance factor is of sufficient numbers to elect representatives on condition of thwarting or blocking the advancement of these agendas no matter the outrage from various factions or popular culture. Understanding and acceptance will never come about through legislation nor righteous indignation. Life is not a series of switches haphazardly thrown off and on. Change of heart has nothing to do with sexual orientation.
