WBCN in Boston (104.1 FM) also played Alice's Restaurant EVERY Thanksgiving exactly at noon. I grew up listening to this song as a tradition and every time I hear it I see my life flash before my eyes (in a good way!!). I remember back to being a kid going to my big brother's high school Turkey Day game and hearing this on the return trip.  Then I remember listening it when I was in college, at home waiting for the bird to cook and for the relatives to come over, thinking how strange it is for me to be home in New England again.

Then I flash forward to Thanksgiving Days when I was out of college and going to my girlfriend/wife's family's for the big day, and listening to Arlo and wondering how wonderful it is that some things change but others stay just the same.

And in the past several years, I have listened to Arlo and Alice on RP while my son and I get ready to help Mom in the kitchen. Time for new traditions but let's not forget the good old ones!!

And now, when my life is about to change in many drastic ways once again after some years of static living, I think I need to hear Arlo on RP again to let me know that although lots of things change, some things remain the same and that is very important.

I saw Arlo perform this a few years back and it was very true to the original recording.
