Oh, so this is taking the gloves off. Overblown, over-stated muckraking.

Sort of disappointing, but I guess it makes you feel better. There are at least two ways to interpret all of this crap. And there is a lot more to the Keating Five than is presented there.

But, what the hell, it's a crap shoot whoever you decide to vote for. You're taking a big risk either way and the voter has to decide which risk has the higher chance for disaster. In that respect I would pick the Palin/McCain ticket as being the most risky. To do anything in his administration McCain will have to rely on Republicans who know openly question his ability to lead and even hate his guts. In the event, God forbid, that he passes on in office the country would be delivered into the hands of the Alaskan Governor who I am confident would be either a puppet or a disaster.

Poor yourself a glass of Merlot and enjoy the ride.

On the more serious side, I'm wondering whether this is similar to the report filed by the American War College about the Israeli Army which stated that the men had to be trained to overcome their innate reflex to protect the women in their squads and that until they were properly trained they would actually endanger the mission they were on in order to protect the female members of their teams.  It's an instinct...

Fortunately for me, my mother beat it out of me...

I generally ignore what you post like I tune past static on the radio dial. I engage when I think it's going to be worth my time and the time of people reading—I have other things to do, and a real life to live. I don't want to look back on it from the end and regret how I spent it.

As for your question: go re-read your first paragraph. I think you've answered that yourself, and I rest my case.

It was a serious question & your answer was a sidestep. So what's new? Well, you can't put your nuts on the line & give an honest answer to an honest question. Bear in mind that there are more than just a few posts & journals stating my thoughts & beliefs in true liberalism & calling an idiot an idiot when he acts like one is hardly an act of disrespect in my eyes. But I waste my time.

Well then, don't try to sell us another FOUR MORE YEARS. What are you people thinking, with all due respect....?
Y'know what? They are due respect. Seriously.

Barack Obama, and Democrats in general, love their country. I think, if pressed, most non-lefties here would acknowledge that. But John McCain and Republicans love their country too, just as I do. If you can't acknowledge that and can't drop this the-other-guy-is-evil pose you are part of the problem.

There are people here I respect, and a few more I'd like to respect. But by denying their opponents' basic humanity they are perpetuating a division that will prevent us even looking at the big picture, at the real peril we are in. Like two camps in a lifeboat flinging buckets of water at each other, ignoring the rising water in the boat. I'll go farther than saying they aren't helping—I'll say they are a big part of why the boat is sinking.

That respect isn't being granted here. Some of y'all will use any stick to beat your opponent regardless of what you have to tear down to get that stick or what you get on your hands while you swing it. You justify it by saying these people have got to be stopped!

Think for a moment what a negative thing that is to order your life around. Then think about the damage you do when you complete the sentence: by any means necessary. The means determine the ends, folks. One day this election will be over. Can the side that squeaks out a victory really govern if they have to fight dirty to win? The country is too narrowly divided to roll over bitter opposition. But really, this is a utilitarian digression; can you really accomplish anything positive with hate?

Looks like I picked the wrong day to give up heroin.

Seriously... Thank you for this posting.  I recognize myself here and I'm somewhat chagrined to note that I haven't been as tolerant as I try to be.

But I will continue to find myself wondering just how much of a joke this actually started out to be.  I usually get the joke, but when it's on a computer, there's not much in the way of winks and nods to go on so emoticons might be necessary to convey the "tongue in cheek" nature of a posting.

I've stated before that both sides of this current debate seem to have lost their ability to compromise and America is worse for this.

It is our unique ability to compromise which has allowed us to become the strongest country in the world.  We need to learn again what our fathers knew.

Wow. Yesterday I had decided I'd avoid this thread, but it's like a train wreck, you just want a little peek. And what do I find? A really good message. Thank you.
———-
Now, putting the shoe in the other mouth, your exact words apply to something far more important than our little tempest. That is, the willingness, eagerness in fact, for some people in our government to sell out our fundamental American freedoms for 'victory', whatever that means. 'By any means necessary' sets the tone for some extremely un-American actions perpetrated by our 'leaders'. I can overlook 'pre-emptive war' for the moment. I can overlook 'enhanced interrogation' for the moment. But the warrantless wiretapping and searches, the indefinite imprisonment of people without the barest legal safeguards, these things are not what America stands for. The concept of habeus corpus goes back to, what, the Magna Carta? AD 1215, for pete's sake! Yes, it CAN be suspended, and was, by Abraham Lincoln during the single most disastrous time in American History. THIS is not the Civil War, no matter what the fear-mongers say.

Our enemies are still HUMANS. This country was founded on the concept that HUMANS are entitled to certain rights and freedoms. Rights and freedoms found virtually no where else in the world. Or I should say, USED TO BE found no where else. We have sacrificed our principles and our dignity, out of fear, hatred, whatever excuse you want to use, it's still just an excuse.

Until we realize our enemies' basic humanity, there can be no peace.

Own it, buddy. I've had to even when I felt I wasn't deserving. Many times.
