I don’t see how Joe recovers from this. It reinforced the perceptions that he is too old and feeble.

Mine is that even without the mic, Trump is going to whine and carry on and interrupt enough to distract Joe and not let him answer anything.

I think the proverbial bar unfortunately is low for Trump: he only needs to comport himself in a manner befitting a presidential candidate engaging in a debate. If he can do that for 90 minutes, he effectively wins. Sounds easy, but not for him. I do not see how he avoids ranting about the 2020 election that was stolen from him, the two-tiered justice system, and the rigged trials against him, and accusing Biden of being on drugs. And those are the low-hanging fruit.

The bottle of Boost that Biden sips from will be seized for testing, with performance enhancing drug test results: positive.

Rick Perry wants to eliminate the Depts of Education, Commerce, and um, um, oh yeah, Energy.

This is at a time when we are falling behind in education, having an enormous jobs crisis, and are way behind China in energy production.

Would not make a good president.

It seems the debates are taking a turn for the good.

Now the questioners are getting booed for asking bullshit questions that prevent real debate from happening.

If elected, I'll institute an amazing crash program that in just 24 hours will trim ugly fat and waste from government and literally turn it into super services for you the American people by utilizing a natural mechanism so powerful that when unleashed against pockets of government flab it melts and transforms them into effective programs that work even as the American people sleep!!

Free to Die

By PAUL KRUGMAN
The New York Times
September 15, 2011

Now, there are two things you should know about the Blitzer-Paul exchange. The first is that after the crowd weighed in, Mr. Paul basically tried to evade the question, asserting that warm-hearted doctors and charitable individuals would always make sure that people received the care they needed - or at least they would if they hadn't been corrupted by the welfare state. Sorry, but that's a fantasy. People who can't afford essential medical care often fail to get it, and always have - and sometimes they die as a result.

The second is that very few of those who die from lack of medical care look like Mr. Blitzer's hypothetical individual who could and should have bought insurance. In reality, most uninsured Americans either have low incomes and cannot afford insurance, or are rejected by insurers because they have chronic conditions.

So would people on the right be willing to let those who are uninsured through no fault of their own die from lack of care? The answer, based on recent history, is a resounding "Yeah!"

The Rude Pundit (caution, he really is rude!) had an interesting take on last Wednesday's debate between Obama and McCain. It was in his 10/16/08 blog post,  which you will have to scroll down and find right after his post about Bush's head on the giant black stone, that he said:

Obama's approach to the whole campaign has been incredibly straightforward: He is not running to be your buddy, Americans. He is running to be your president. He's not gonna say he likes your fuckin' pork rinds just to make you like him. (The times he veered briefly into that kind of pandering were just embarrassing, and he's avoided them since the primaries.) And he's not gonna stand for the kind of fucktardery that's taken down Democrats the last two elections, as well as during the Reagan/Bush years. Yeah, he addressed each thing that McCain mentioned, but he cut McCain's nuts off and held them up for McCain to see when he turned it back on the Republican: "I think the fact that this has become such an important part of your campaign, Senator McCain, says more about your campaign than it says about me."

I woke up this morning thinking about a million things like usual, and was thinking about the debates.

I realized they're over.

Then I realized, that McCain didn't do in the last debate what I though he was going to do...  I thought he was going to unveil a strong and meaningful economic plan, and give Obama a run for his money.

What a missed opportunity for McCain!  If he had presented a plan that was sensible, and easy to understand, he could have made some serious gains.  Instead, he chose to attack Obama's plan.

So, McCain either has no plan, or his plan would be unpopular.  In a time like this, a man with no plan should not be president.
