That's what they are saying but that's not what was being reported on the news here. The U.S has taken COMPLETE control of the airport and are the ones making the decisions on who can land and who can't. Yes there is limited space but that doesn't mean all that space should be reserved for U.S troops. This is not a dig at the U.S, It's merely what I'm hearing on the UK news, reporters directly at the airport interviewing people from all sides. It seems that people are now beginning to blame each other. Roads are blocked with U.S troops, aid agencies, the U.N and Haitian helpers as no one seems to be controlling this. The french lady who has just been on has said their plane like the one in the report you linked me too has tried landing 3 times and each time has been diverted. This plane is full of ESSENTIAL medicines which has been urged for from the surgeons and doctors and was told it was a priority. The U.S naval ship that has been there for a few days now has sent out NO aid at all, nothing! Someone over there though needs to organise this properly before they all fall out, it's not a place to be arguing with one another, that's not going to help at all. It's all very difficult I suppose.

Latest news is showing that the aid is NOT getting to people anywhere near quick enough. It seems the U.S are favouring their troops to land before anything else. They spoke with the main man running things and even he seemed rather confused. There is a makeshift camp just 200 yards from the airport entrance, 200 YARDS! and they STILL haven't had any food or water. When this was mentioned to him he seemed even more confused. The main problem the aid agencies seem to be having is they are trying to get much needed medicine, Morphine, antibiotics for those unfortunate enough to have had limbs amputated. These medicines are VITAL and as each second passes more and more people are becoming angry and many people are dying unnecessarily. Something needs to be done NOW before this becomes another fiasco like hurricane Katrina.

Hey everybody...Pete Seeger's banjer head is up for auction!

Wholly crap!   That is my friend RJ.   I posted this because he sent it to me and I figured it was interesting.  The email was on my phone and I waited until I was on my computer to watch it.   I went to school with RJ, he makes world class violins (or more appropriately called fiddles).  I accompanied him to go over to deliver a fiddle to Del McCoury and his fiddler Jason.  That was soo cool.  Del McCoury was so nice, told me stories about Bill Monroe.

I love Pete Seeger.  I went to his 90th birthday party :)

so anyone want to buy this banjo head? it is for a good cause.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not blaming anyone, I'm just reporting what I'm seeing on the news here in the UK which to be fair is often different to the stuff they see in the states. From a few interviews I've seen people are not bothered that the U.S are controlling the airport they are more concerned that aid doesn't seem to be getting into the country as quickly as it should but instead miltary personel and press. They seem to be suggesting that the wrong planes are being allowed to land at this crucial time. It must be really difficult for all concerned but aid must be top priority surely?

Whoever took charge of the airport would get the same criticism.   You can't just let planes land willy nilly.  Yes, folks like MSF had to be diverted for a day, and that equals Xhundred lives lost... but the person/s who decide priorities have the long term best intentions in mind.

I heard somewhere that the military is a very high priority, because there has to be enough order to protect the Xthousand aide workers as well as the residents.  And remember, the military can be the most efficient body through which to distribute aid.  CAN be... not always are, unfortunately.

Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues, The email below is from a dear colleague and friend with whom I work closely.  She and her father have done a great deal of volunteer work in Haiti, and her father is currently in Haiti, volunteering at a hospital where earthquake victims can be treated (as of this email yesterday the hospital was empty). Time is of the essence, as very soon it may be too late for many of the people who require medical assistance. If you know anyone in the media who could help get the word out that this hospital is available for victims in Port-au-Prince, please contact Tim Traynor (see below). Thanks and be well. ~Valerie —————————————————————————————————————————-
Subject: Do you know anyone in the media who could bring attention this situation? Hello - I'm sending this out in an attempt to bring attention to a very important situation.  My dad, Tim Traynor, who has been volunteering at a Hospital in Milot, Haiti is trying to get in touch with the right people so they can help victims in Port-au-Prince.  Milot is only 75 miles from Haiti.  They have food, housing, and a fully-staffed trauma unit in place and have only received 4 patients, thus far, from Port-au-Prince.  Do you know anyone in the media who could interview Tim and draw attention to this situation?  The word needs to get out and Tim needs to be connected with the right directors of medical operations in Port-au-Prince so that they know that there are resources nearby that can be quickly accessed to save people's lives.  Tim Traynor can be contacted via Skype.  His Skype contact is: tim.traynor  Email: ttraynor1948@gmail.com  His cell number is: 413-241-6526 If you have any connections, please contact that person and pass along Tim's information.  It would be helpful to let me know if you have contacted someone as well.  Thank you for your help.  Sincerely,
Katie Traynor Below is a note from Tim sent to Anderson Cooper's producer. Jackie,
I am sitting at Hopital Sacre Coeur in Milot, Haiti, 75 miles north of
PAP waiting for patients that have yet to arrive.  I have a 7 member
trauma/ general surgery team that arrived from the States earlier this
afternoon and have received only 4 people from PAP.  Those that made
it by USCGS helo were so septic that they would have died had they not
been transported to us early this PM.  We have 6 Orthopedic surgeons
arriving at noon tomorrow and we have no patients for them.  We have
created space for one hundred people and have differed all
non-emergency cases until we have handled the crisis.  I am told that
within three to four days all those injured in the quake will be dead
and the extraordinary efforts accomplished by these generous doctors
will have been wasted.  What in the name of God can we do or who can
we talk to in an effort to alleviate the misery and keep this tragedy
from turning into one of the biggest calamities in our time. Can you
email me a telephone number so that we can speak or find some other
way to help us. Thanks,

Tim Traynor
Volunteer

I forwarded this on to someone at the bbc, hope it helps.

Right now the
Hospital Albert Schweitzer Haiti urgently needs help with antibiotics and medical supplies.  They're receiving the critical trauma cases that are flowing in constanly from Port au Prince.  The website is to the hospital & there is also a blog by the hospital director Ian Rawson.

in canada the government will match, or double any personal donation to organizations like the salvation army.
