Caught them twice: once with and once without. Don't remember much about the first show except I think The Nails opened for them.
Second show I remember clearly: opened for Petty during a summer show. That means it was still daylight when they took the stage outdoors, which really puts a damper on the audience's engagement, I think. They played a bit, chatted amongst themselves a lot. Wondered off mike (I was close) if they should do "three songs in three minutes" and I yelled "YES!" but they didn't. Ultimately not noteworthy.
I saw a Mats show not long after he took over and I wish I could say it was legendary but the Replacements were notoriously uneven and he couldn't overcome that, at least not so quickly. Plus I confess I probably resented him for a while. I'm older now and the tamer last few albums are more appealing to me now than they were back then. But I always was thankful that he was able to step in and keep the band intact and I wish I'd seen them more, before and after the change.
That sounds like I'm really hating on the guy but I'm not. It was a complicated time and he brought his not-Bob levelheadedness to a band that hadn't had a lot of that before.
Yeah, Bob Stinson was great, but had a lot of issues and problems, enough that even his half-brother conceded to kicking him out of the band.

It has been confirmed. Ustad Zakir Hussain has died. The world has lost a giant. I cannot believe I will not be seeing any more concerts or new music from this man. Ustad Zakir Hussain Tabla Solo Dim your lights.
Indeed. I got to see his father, Alla Rakha play with Ravi Shankar at UC Irvine right after Monterey Pop in 1967. I heard sounds that night which changed my musical life forever. The linked performance of Zakir took me right back to that night. Such a gift. Such a loss. .

I guarantee you have heard a record with an Andy Paley credit. From 70s pop duo Paley Brothers to underground producer to mainstream producer to songwriter and basically whatever the hell he wanted to do...
I remember the Paley Bros., but I didn't realize Andy Paley had done that much stuff.
I knew his name from the liner notes on several Jonathan Richman albums so I figured he was one of many Modern Lovers who had day jobs but got roped into playing once in a while. Then I started noticing his name all over the place and wondering if it was the same guy.
