Asshole was the grandfather of shock TV. From him we get Morton Downey Jr, Jerry Springer, then Maurey Povich, etc.

My Greg Kihn story.

A month before moving to New York in 1978 I flew in from Chicago where I was living to meet with my friend and her landlord about taking over her apartment.  The airport bus from LaGuardia dropped me off in front of Grand Central and I started walking across 42nd Street.  Greg Kihn’s song Madison Avenue had been on the radio a lot the summer before and I knew it well, especially that great extended guitar hook that opens it.  As I turned up Madison Avenue it was playing in my head and I found myself walking in time to the beat.  As I continued walking up with the music and lyrics playing in my head, I thought, “This is how everyone should feel as they arrive in New York, like they belong here.”

Thank you, Greg, for all your music, but especially for this song which will always be a special favorite of mine.

Yes you are absolutely correct, it was Warwick, RI. I had a mental lapse then and now.

Wow I didn’t think he was that old. We always used to watch Hollywood Squares back then. Always enjoyed his sense of humor.

To Peter. Now you are reunited with all the stars who played the game.

March 1982, while doing my required shift in the New Orleans morgue (really), I made this the cover of our school satire magazine.
