Stone bona fide night flyer
I'm an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you, you
I'm the melody and the space between
Every note the swallow sings
I'm fourteen vultures circling
I'm that crawling, dying thing
I'm the smoke up above the trees, Good Lord
The fire and the branch that's burning, Lord
Maybe you were sleeping, Lord
But Mary she's not weeping no more, no, mm-mm
Yeah, I'm a midnight rider
Stone bona fide night flyer
I'm an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you, you, you
I'm the sick light of a hurricane's eye
I'm a violent lullaby
I'm six fireflies, one streetlight
I'm a suffocating summer night hm-mm, mm
I'm each of his steps on the stairway
I'm his shadow in the door frame
I'm the tap-tap of a lunar moth
I'm the stale beer on his breath hm-mm, hm-mm
His soul is trapped in that room
But I crawled back in my mother's womb
Came back out with my gold and my greens
Now I see everything
Now I feel everything, Good Lord
What the hell could they bring to stop me, Lord?
Nothing from the earth, nothing from the sea
Not a God Almighty thing
Yeah, I'm a midnight rider
Stone bona fide night flyer
I'm an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you, you, you
I'm the wounded bird, I'm the screaming hawk
I'm the one who can't be counted out
I'm the dove thrown into battle
I can roll and shake and rattle hm-mm, hm-mm
I'm the moon's dark side, I'm the solar flare
The child of the Earth, the child of the Air
I am The Mother of the Evening Star
I am the Love that Conquers All
Yeah, I'm a midnight rider
Stone bona fide night flyer
I'm an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you
Yeah, I'm a midnight rider
Stone bona fide night flyer
I'm an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you
You, you
You, you
You, you

Is it really "Americana" if it's performed by a Canadian?
Although "Americana" as a music genre refers to music created with an amalgamation of primarily American musical sources it is not practiced solely by artists from the US. There are numerous artists from Canada who also occupy the genre. Sometimes these artists are referred to as Canadiana rather than Americana.

And you are who? Are you anybody? Can you write and/or perform even a fraction as good as this great song? smh

Some of the new material currently being played on Radio Paradise is exceptional and this track is an excellent example of that!

She was the stand-out member, even then. Sorry Tim.
This song continues to grow on me. She has such a soulful voice, edging into Aretha territory.
I'm a huge Aretha fan. I've given this song a peevish 9 because I'm reluctant to give a newish singer a 10. But I couldn't connect Russell to Franklin. At all. Then I listened to a live performance of this song (link below), and I think you're onto something. Allison Russell is simply scratching the surface of her range:

what?
Yeah.
Was that last line really necessary, your Ultimate Ego-less Holiness? Do you know that the commenter is from the US? And your derogatory generalization of Americans and stating that you are,in fact, a US American, is displaying your own ego-centric arrogance. You just unwittingly dropped your pants for us all to see. Very funny. Thank you.
what?
Technically the Western Hemisphere is primarily made up of North America, Central America and South America. So technically yes. We are all Americans.
EGO-centric arrogant US American a-holes. (FYI I'm from and in the USA)

But also have to come to love the images / photographs that go along with each piece of music, yet never see a comment on those . . .
My best wishes and deepest gratitude to Bill and Rebecca for all that you do!!
Honey in the heart, 13 thank yous, Long Life!

Grammy nominated song. Check out any live version of this on YouTube ... better yet, go see her live. She has an amazing life story as a survivor, and her love of life despite her past is incredibly inspirational.

America refers to all of the Americas not just the USA
