She was a shark smile in a yellow van
She came around and I stole a glance in my youth
A vampire
Evelyn shown quiet as roses sting
It came over me at a bad time
But who wouldn't ride on a moonlit line?
Had her in my eye, 85 down the road of a dead end gleam

And she said woo
Baby, take me
And I said woo
Baby, take me too

It came over her at a bad time
Riding through Winona down the dotted line
Held us gunning out
Ninety miles down the road of a dead end dream
She looked over with a part smile
Caught up in the twinkle, it could take awhile
And the money pile on the dashboard fluttering

As she said woo
Baby, take me
And I said woo
Baby, take me too

Evelyn's kiss was oxygen
I leaned over to take it in
As we went howling through the edge of south Des Moines
It came over me at a bad time
She burned over the double line
She impaled as I reached my hand for the guardrail
Ooh, the guardrail
Ooh, the guardrail

And she said woo
Baby, take me
And I said woo
Baby, take me too

She said woo
Baby, take me
And I said woo
Baby, take me too

One of my favourite songs that came out within the last 10 years. Music and Lyrics 10/10.

"Evelyn's kiss was oxygen
I leaned over to take it in"

What a great line.
I lived in Brooklyn for 42 years.  I guessed I missed Big Thief on my way out of Park Slope, BK for far bigger and literally greener pastures.

LOL. I turn 60 this month, so good to know!
I think it's the "woop" that makes this a peppy song.

I guess you'll be surprised how many old people listen to RP, based on comments here.

Me 75 years hip, with no broken hips.

Talkin 'bout my generation

Damned right we can!
in a complimentary sense this sounds like an uptempo Mazzy Star
Love this!!

It seems RP has been adding some new music lately. It's great to have good new music in the mix. Thanks Bill/Rebecca!

FYI Alanna is a big part of RP now and she has been adding music to the collection.

Reading the lyrics, my rating went from 8 to 9.

Buck Meek is totally uniqeek.  Like electric splashes. Like aural punctuation. Like the unknown meaning's force that moves you forward in your dream. And totally in tune with what the song requires.

This is absolute poetry.

"Old people" is relative. Chances are very good that you are "old people" to a certain age group.

I try...
Adrianne is such a natural talent.  Amazing bio.  No wonder Susan Tedeschi took her under her wing.  Honored to have both of them as fellow alumnae.  Big Thief is a most welcome fresh breeze albeit some 7 years after their genesis.

Thank you Bill for the intro.  You are truly prescient.

Very good early interview available on YouTube.

This band really grows on you.

Well they're growing on me anyway.

The ‘pace’ of this song is mind boggling. A hidden slow start and then what? A NY, Memphis groove…I like
Simple and simply awesome. “ Evelyn’s kiss was oxygen, I leaned over to take it in “
The baby in the photo, is that the lead singer?
Fantastic song. This is a great band.

As with the song I recently heard on RP from their record, Masterpiece, this feels like a really nice mix of good old storytelling and music with a hint of Country; not too much, mind you, but just the right amount, in my opinion... Also, her voice is hypnotic...
That's 3 Big Thief songs today...is BillG up to something?  Or was it just an epiphany?

Noticed this too - it is refreshing - keep it up B&R!
