You were tired of living
The solitary way it ended up
Watching your whole life become
Love on the run

How much time are we given
To find someone and tell 'em all apart?
Carving our names in the bark
What have we done?

Ooh, just a loving song, a loving song of freedom
Like I'm in danger
When there ain't nobody else
I put my heart back on the shelf
Turn into light

Took in all I was given
Erased it all to fake a work of art
Nothing to show for it all
Did I do my part?
Don't they say so?

Don't have to say goodbye
If you wanna, if you wanna
Leaving it all behind
If you wanna, if you wanna
Why don't you tell me lies
Don't you wanna, don't you wanna
Won't you begin to drive?

Ooh, just a loving song, a loving song of freedom
Like I'm in danger
When there ain't nobody else
I put my heart back on the shelf
Turn into light

Our lies like anybody else
All the countless turns we've taken for ourselves
And though we walk alone, the sun will shine again
The sun will shine again before we rise

Reminds me of Gloria Estefan
Has a feel similar to the Style Council from the early '80s.

Couldn't put words to the feeling, but that's it: it sounds like a classic. A really good classic.
Man this is so 70s I can actually taste the brown!

hmmmmm gooooood.

Indeed - and that is a very, very good thing.  Long live Paul Weller!

Reminded me I should be dusting off my old record player soon ....
Isn´t this a Carpenters song?
This song is so beautiful I can listen to it for a whole day on repeat

Our friend, you hit the nail right on the head.. What a gorgeous song.
The songwriter/singer has clearly studied this style well enough to reverse-engineer it.  Though the Bee Gees would have never put up with rhythm section players of this caliber.

As Oasis is the the Beatles Bells in this song is to the Bee Gees.

Also Ambrosia, “Holdin’ on to Yesterday”, 1975…

Could they leave the song there? 'Cause it doesn't sound any better in the 20s...

Might have been the 6:55
how lovely. Great tune after the Cloud Cult song. So so lovely.
The outro is heavenly. I wish it would go on for at least a day or two.
They completely leaned into the 70s - and succeeded!
Is that Jack Smith? (Pre-DoJ days, I assume.)
The Carpenters?
First time hearing this - like it a lot - the lead vocalist sounds a bit like Steve Wilson - and that's a good thing
Epic... Awesome... Such gifted artists! This soothes my ears, mind, heart, and soul with some very nice vibes!

Much better singing than the Flaming Lips.  Just saying  ...
Well, the singer/songwriter has certainly spent enough time studying the Bee Gees to be able to parody them.

Too bad the drummer doesn't understand this style of music at all and can't get out of their hipster way.
I'm surprised that this wasn't a big hit (or whatever constitutes one these days). So much retro appeal.
Superb and sublime!
I did not want to love this song - cause it sounds like a rip off of New York State of mind ... but I like...

Only a 7 for me tho...
First time I heard, sounded like the Flaming Lips, just saying….
Oh, how I like the brass, strings, piano and backing vocals in this song!
This is kind of a surprise from Broken Bells. Their singing isn't always the best but this is actually very easy to listen to. That's something I've come to appreciate about RP, because of the streaming platform I have to use, I'm forced to listen to the entire song or turn it off until it's over.
Opening sounded like something A Girl Called Eddy would do, which is no bad thing.
ok, and now i'm not imagining it, but this was played yesterday. i know they have other songs...

i do absolutely love this one, but not every day.
It's interesting as this sounds like a dead ringer for a pop song we might hear on the radio around 1975.
This has such a great 70s vibe…

story of my life...

i love, love, love this song.
  lowrider classics...

Instant love! This song just hits the right note.
Strong Pet Shop Boys feeling (from the album "Behaviour", released in 1990 and considered "retro" at the time).
I like it. A lot.

or the whole thing
I'm not normally a fan of badly-tuned pianos but it works here; this is a lovely little jewel of a song.

Bill is a DJ, they allways first.

That doesn't mean Bill doesn't have a Tardis.
Music by Burt Bacharach! I'm not saying that's a bad thing... ❤️
This is really good, agreeing about the 70s vibe. It's the first song by Broken Bells that I've really liked- James Mercer often sounds a bit preachy, lyrically, and I'm not picking up on that here, which I like.
Had to bump this up from 9 to 10

Sounds like Broken Bells to me🤔 great track btw👍

Started at a 9 for me. Just love these guys.
They're channelling 70s R&B .... awesome!

According to Stereogum, this was released as a single on AWAL on October 7, 2022.

BeeGees pure rip off.

First thing I thought was R&B, or maybe blue-eyed soul. Wiki says indie rock and alternative rock; the former means not on a major label and the latter means... what? Everything is an alternative to something else. At least "space rock" attempts to describe something specific.

Whatever you call it it's very nice indeed!

I think this vibe is what many 70's artists strived for, but failed. I agree that whatever you call this, it works for me!
Just damn good.  I'd have put a bit more spice in the horn charts and more melody in the bass line but this is sooo good as presented.  Refreshing retro all the way.
This is very reminiscent of Trouble Sleeping by the Trashcan Sinatras - not a criticism, I like both tracks, it's just... interesting. To me, at least!
yum...delicious...
beautiful!
When the vocals started I thought this was an Everything but the Girl track that I'd never heard before and rushed to see who it was.  Broken Bells- go figure!  Excellent track, nice groove.  immediate 8 on first listen.

When did it become 1970 again?
Very nice track. Definitely a time warp!

It could be 11th of January... no way of telling
Nice guitar towards the end, however, the song is just too sappy for me.

He's going to buy one last Thursday...
What year is this! I’m in some sort of twisted time-warp. Does this mean polyester is coming back too? Do I need to feed my ‘pet rock’?

Second comment, ! yay !
Very nice late night headphone track!
Lots of detail in the production.
