Good night, sleep tight
The big bright sun has gone away
Done gone away
Goodbye, don't cry
Tomorrow will bring us a brand new day
We can run and play

And they'll laugh up and down the hall
Don't you go shout when you hear them fall
Let them fly across the wall
Let them cry 'til the morning calls
Little two step angel dance

Big night, bright lights
Time now to lay them all to rest
Put 'em all to rest
Bad guys, mean eyes
All gone away to where they belong
Let's just sing our song

And they'll laugh up and down the hall
Don't you go shout when you hear them fall
Let them fly across the wall
Let them cry 'til the morning calls
Little two step angel dance

Good days, new ways
Let go of all things when you sleep
When you're all asleep
Good night, sleep right
Tomorrow is gonna bring us another day
So we can run and play

And they'll laugh up and down the hall
Don't you go shout when you hear them fall
Let them fly across the wall
Let them cry, 'til the morning calls
Little two step angel dance

I bet S. Wineood could likely do this tune justice. Ain't nobody does it like R. Plant though. IMHO, of course.

Here I am today knowing this song all this time but hearing it so infrequently, once again I was thinking this was Winwood and came to look again and see it isn't.
thanks william for playing deep cuts of los lobos
These guys consistently get high ratings from me. They have an uncanny sense of tempo! Rich harmonics. Lyrically authentic. Great live performers too πŸ‘πŸ½

Google says way at the bottom of page one "This is the first single from Band of Joy, an album by the British rock singer Robert Plant and his band the Band of Joy. It was released on September 13, ..." and stops before saying 2010, in their short snippet from Song Facts, but if you go to the link used it says originally by Los Lobos ( in 1990) covered by Plant et al, and deeper tells you that David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos appear in the Plant & Band of Joy video for the single.
Also, Google Bing, and any that rely on them are getting worse and worse at finding info. Pags that contain what you are looking for either are now many pages into the search results, or not that at all anymore.
Such outstanding songwriting 🎼🎢

Plenty of misinformation on Google. Writers are David Hidalgo and Louis Perez of Los Lobos. This track appeared on Los Lobos' 1990 album The Neighborhood. Robert Plant covered it on his 2010 album Band of Joy and it was the lead single from the album.

About the song Plant told Mojo magazine in an interview : "Los Lobos play with such great cool, Hispanic poly-rhythms. I kept thinking this song is like a nursery rhyme but the compulsion of the rhythm seems like it could be a reflection of the way they deal with their forefathers".

As a further tribute to Los Lobos Plant featured Hidalgo and Perez in his video for the song.

Me too!
The whole album is excellent. I actually bought it from a cassette cut-out bin at the grocery store.
Los Lobos is awesome.  However, I will say I saw them twice.  First concert was awesome; second one not so much!

I'm pretty sure this was a Los Lobos song originally (from a 1990 album). Plant only covered it on his Band of Joy album some 20 years later.
Love their sound!
Bill!! Today is David Bowie's day!!! Play Bowie and "déjate de hostias" (as in Spanish can said)

Good music, any time, any were. And, it reminded me of Chuck Berry's song.
This is a band that's never, repeat: never, done a single bad tune. Amazing music for decades.
Volume cranked to 10 - simply fantastic. {#Music}

OK,now'v learned this is not a Traffic tune that I'v missed ! {#Yes}

Great tune !

Love this song!
I do like Robert Plant's new cover with his Band of Joy which I had the pleasue of seeing live in Mobile recently. Robert's covers are always such a homage to the artists. He has such a good time presenting the music from which his original inspirations were drawn many years ago with Zepp (yes, I know this song had not been recorded at that time). His version is a little bouncier.
That being said, I think this Los Lobos original is superior, but not by much. {#Sunny}

I experienced the same thing the first time I heard them in '84.

Are you suggesting that Los Lobos is influenced by the Subdudes? This song was originally released in 1990 after the lobos had been in existence for nearly 15 years. I realize the 'dudes had formed a few years prior to that but I hardly think they'd also managed to develop to the point that they would be influencing a veteran band in such a short time. Remember what Mark Twain once said, "Get your facts straight first, then distort them as you please." I do think the 'dudes have one of the cleverest names ever, though.

Massively great karma. Only band that just ALWAYS makes me feel GOOD. American treasures.

This is probably the only song of theirs that does sound so much like Winwood.  Great band, very diverse, saw them live a couple of years or so ago in San Diego and they were a little disjointed, still put out rich music.  One of my favorite CDs is their "Just Another Band From East L.A," originally recorded to LP in 1978.

SWEEETTT song!
This song deserves a LOT more airplay on RP, though I'm indebted to this station for introducing me to it. My favorite Los Lobos track.
If you are looking to start your Lobos collection, "The Neighborhood" is a great place to start (along with either Kiko or Good Morning Aztlan). This is one of many great songs on this recording, not a bad song on this album. "The Giving Tree" and "Jenny's Got a Pony" still blow me away....

I always thought this was Stevie Winwood. Good song!
Damn I thought I heard Eric Clapton singing... oops. This is nice, much better than that other Los Lobos song RP always plays.
I like this allot. Los Lobos is pretty dang good really!
I thought it was S.W too, good song - almost a really good song.
Great band! Bill, please add "I got loaded" to your Los Lobos line up.
Yes, I thought the same, Stevie is back! Maybe, Los Lobos's lead was or is a fan of his.

The more I hear his voice, the more I like it. . .
I said this earlier today, and I'm reminded again with a second Los Lobos song that, I can't wait to see them live at The Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival in August!!!
Times change. That album cover now looks like the front of a brochure for some new condo complex or retirement home. Still a good album though.
I was thinking Peter Gabriel, but when I saw people saying Steve Winwood, I decided I agree with that more. Whatever the case, it's still a 5.
upped this one from a seven to an eight...smooth... S.

They played La Bamba at a free concert last week in Dallas. That was hardly the highlight of their performance, although they do an excellent cover of that tune. It was an awesome show, too.
Yeah, I was like, hooray Stevie's got his groove back!!! Dang. Los Lobos are cool though.

They're brilliant. And anyone who mentions "one-hit wonderism" and Los Lobos in the same sentence doesn't know squat about music. Even I know they're not ephimeral, and I don't know squat, either! Wish I'd hear more Los Lobos here.
