Lying in bed in the sunrise
Choking on a vitamin tablet the doctor gave
In the hope of saving me
In the hope of saving me
Mott's in the corner of the room
Junkyard fool with eyes of gloom
I asked him time again,
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain,
Take me in and dry the rain,
The rain, the rain, the rain, the rain, my rain now
Dusty brown boots in the corner by the ironing board
Spray-on dust is the greatest thing
Sure is the greatest thing
Since the last, since the last
Mott's in the corner of the room
Junkyard fool with eyes of gloom
I asked him time again
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
The rain, the rain, the rain, the rain, my rain now
I asked him time again,
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
The rain, the rain, the rain, the rain, my rain now
If there's something inside that you wanna say
Say it out loud it'll be okay
I will be alright, I will be alright
I will be your light, I will be your light
If there's something inside that you wanna say
You can say it out loud it will be okay
I will be alright, I will be your light
I will be your light, I will be your light

Is Championship Vinyl still in business?
IDK but i was in that wicker park/chicago record store back in the day that high fidelity came out.
oh, i adore this song, haven't heard it in years. thanks bill!
i could listen to this on repeat for a long time.
First time for me. What a gem.

"You should turn it up" (Marie De Salle, High Fidelity)
Awesome!
I will now sell five copies of "The Three EPs" by The Beta Band.
I bought one
I also had a vague "something familiar about this" feeling...and in looking up Wiki (and then the rest of the song comments) realize it was in High Fidelity....one of the record store scenes. What a great freaking movie that was!
Only 1 season, but it carries the "ethos" of the movie very successfully IMO.
📍
One of the guys from this band made the film Slow West. Great film in my humble opinion and a great band too.
Interesting. I almost watched that film. I now will. Researching, it reminded me of Nick Cave's 'The Proposition'.
Agreed. But what if you're dead?
The GD feel the vibe too
Agreed. But what if you're dead?
Though, considering the timing, it would be more accurate to say Ween's The Rift has echoes of this.
The Three E.P.'s is a compilation album of the first three releases by Scottish musical group The Beta Band, comprising the EPsChampion Versions, The Patty Patty Sound and Los Amigos del Beta Bandidos. The album was released on 28 September 1998 in the United Kingdom by Regal and on 26 January 1999 in the United States by Astralwerks. Its cover art includes the main image from each of the EPs.
Gotta say, kingart, I like your explanation better!

Long Live RP...and EPs too, eh?!!
Me too!
Or maybe Beck sounds like this?
I am hearing early Floyd.
Pink Beck cool
never heard of them either. Why is this? How can it be? ↑ 7 from Bristol straight up.

Thought it was him at first.

flying fast and almost
touching pines and wind.
Defo a bit floyd'ish - but then, probably more fair to say it's got a late 60's vibe - there were plenty of bands with similar sounds back then.
What sets it apart is ... the bass ... yep.
I like the previous comment saying they heard 'early Pink Floyd'... I'd agree with that, thus the whole esoterically Radiohead tie-in etc... Good stuff...
from 2 to solid 1 (while song is playing).
I'm chair-dancing again. About as 10 as it gets!
Why not try it, eh?
I would agree with that - and, although I don't normally comment on others taste in music, etc, I'd also say that the people who don't get this song are missing out, big time. The Three EPs CD, which this track if from, is a great listen overall, but this particular track is a solid 10. What is more amazing is that, personally, I don't find it rips anything off - even if other people can hear other artists/songs, I think it is really their unique sound.
YES! I can never hear this song without remembering the scene! Perfect Pic!
I think in the movie the line goes "watch, I am going to sell 5 copies of the Beta Band" as he spins their album. I am wondering if that was the only 5 copies ever sold by this band...Well, I bought this CD. They opened for Radiohead on the Kid A tour. A forgettable band. I like this tune though.

Overall sounds like Beck.

Overall sounds like Beck.
The guitar at the end is very similar to Keith Richards.
Nice combination to make an Okay sound/song.
...yeah, you're right - i didn't even notice until you pointed it out!..
all.
by.
himself.
...entertaining gesticulations, to be sure, but a bit goofy jumping up in front of the crowd like that...
That is just awesome.
One of my top 5 favorite movies.
abso - freakin' - lutely! Mother Whale Eyeless

I thought it was Beck too. It gets a solid 6 from me. I woulda given it a 7 if it had been Beck. Heh heh heh. Life just ain't fair.
and yeah. I thought it was beck at first.
"Who is this?" "The Beta Band" "They're pretty good!" "I know"
Funny, I always thought that this sounded like Beta Band. Hmmmm, oh well......
"I will now sell five copies ofThe Three EPs by The Beta Band."
"My desert island, all-time, top-five most memorable breakups, in chronological order, are as follows: Alison Ashmore; Penny Hardwick; Jackie Alden; Charlie Nicholson; and Sarah Kendrew. Those were the ones that really hurt. Can you see your name on that list, Laura? Maybe you'd sneak into the top ten. But there's just no room for you in the top five, sorry. Those places are reserved for the kind of humiliation and heartbreak you're just not capable of delivering."
great tune, and a great movie
I wonder how many folks were like me and first learned of this awesome band from this scene?
Count me as a yes on that one.
funky, tasty turns
The Beta band...wow
