I really like this track and marked it a 7 a while ago but really didn't know anything about the band and was mostly confused by the cover art.  It turns out the band were from Scotland.  That explains the border collie.

I used to test my tube preamps with this song. Amazing how many subtle insights there are, in addition to the killer vibe overall!

The TV show with Zoë Kravitz is also well-worth checking out.
Only 1 season, but it carries the "ethos" of the movie very successfully IMO.

What a great freaking movie that was! I saw the movie and immediately looked up the band and bought the album. It is awesome to discover the work a whole new band to get into. Doesn’t happen often.

The Three E.P.'s is a compilation album of the first three releases by Scottish musical group The Beta Band, comprising the EPsChampion Versions, The Patty Patty Sound and Los Amigos del Beta Bandidos. The album was released on 28 September 1998 in the United Kingdom by Regal and on 26 January 1999 in the United States by Astralwerks. Its cover art includes the main image from each of the EPs.

Can't identify who it reminds me of, but it's from the '60s or '70s. But it would be somewhat enlightening to know the graphic patois for such cover art. Is that sufficient info to decode this equation/juxtaposition? : tiger (Siberian or Bengal) + firecracker (or dynamite, or pipe bomb) + star / star of david or supernova or hexagon = curious dog in snowfield. It's the bass that does it. 
Defo a bit floyd'ish - but then, probably more fair to say it's got a late 60's vibe - there were plenty of bands with similar sounds back then.

I see several other people mention them opening up for Radiohead in 2001. I saw that show/tour in Chicago's Grant Park, the Buckingham Fountain in view, far behind the stage etc... Defiantly one of my all time favorite shows...Gonna hafta find my ticket stub and do a journal entry for that one soon 4sure!

I like the previous comment saying they heard 'early Pink Floyd'... I'd agree with that, thus the whole esoterically Radiohead tie-in etc... Good stuff...{#Music}

I would agree with that - and, although I don't normally comment on others taste in music, etc, I'd also say that the people who don't get this song are missing out, big time.  The Three EPs CD, which this track if from, is a great listen overall, but this particular track is a solid 10.  What is more amazing is that, personally, I don't find it rips anything off - even if other people can hear other artists/songs, I think it is really their unique sound.

I think in the movie the line goes "watch, I am going to sell 5 copies of the Beta Band" as he spins their album.  I am wondering if that was the only 5 copies ever sold by this band...Well, I bought this CD.  They opened for Radiohead on the Kid A tour.  A forgettable band.  I like this tune though.

I have an album by Beta Band that I consider a real work of art. I LOVE the easy swagger, general lazy, yet hip feel & sort of techno-tweaked feel of this band. I think it's a perfect hybrid type of sound. The voice is reminiscent of Beck, yes, but I don't confuse them because of a different tonal quality. I really like this band a lot.
