As did I brother. Dunn and Jamerson were pioneers of melodic bass lines taking over the low end rather than the far more fundamental/rudimentary root and 5th style common to country western and bluegrass. Paul McCartney mastered the melodic style and carried it forward as did John Paul Jones with Zep.

Melodic bass playing is like getting away with murder but requires a mastery of the fretboard. You provide a counterpoint melody to that being played by the rest of the band like a panther prowling in the background and pouncing at will.

Rock on brother.

Comments like these keep me coming back to RP for more... from a wanna be bass player tuba player.
Some serious desk dancing goin' on here by a fifty-something white dude. Avert your eyes.

This is such a groovy song on a sunny March day.  Putting a little bounce in my butt.  The fact that the Clash covered this song makes it all the better.
simply wonderful. Didnt realise this longer version existed
... For any fans of Green Onions, check out Cebollas Verdes by Khrungbin and Quantic :)
Perfection. Booker and team are one of the foundations on which this whole thing we enjoy so much is built.
Get yer dance on.
This was played behind the DJ's yacking whilst he was announcing the Top 20 chart on BBC Radio 1 back in the day.  Bag of chips at lunchtime on schoolday Tuesdays in a mate's house, listening to who was topping the charts.  My God, that seems a long time ago...
so TIGHT
This tune was actually released in 1969.  GREAT TUNE!!  Thanx RP!

The Blues Brothers!"

The Blues Brothers? S*$&@… they still owe you money fool…. 😁
Two of the musicians here, Steve "the Colonel" Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn, were both featured members of the Blues Brothers band in their hit movie from 1979.   Their Wikipedia pages read like a Hall of Fame museum page.  No wonder Booker T and the MGs had such a range, they were all true rock & roll legends in the making!

Sending love to RP! And periodically $  :   )

It's actually unlikely that Jake and Elwood came from Cal City. Those accents indicate a distinctly Bridgeport or Canaryville Chicago neighborhood upbringing.
They just got better and better. Glad to see them here.
An amazing story of an integrated band in the 60s in Memphis that was the house band for Stax Studios.  Many hits due to their writing and performing credit.

Later, Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn were in the Blues Brothers movie band with Paul Shaffer -- whose real job was the Letterman Late Night bandleader.
I remember Armed Forces Radio at Clark Air Base in the Philippines used this song as their morning show theme in the early 1980s.  They used a version with a slightly slower tempo.  This version on RP sounds like a different cut.
If you listen to this while you drive, you can be prone to speeding and crash.

Especially if it's snowing. Like today: march 9, 2023.
Out-fucking-standing!  (sorry, the profanity is required in this instance)
I need to get my hands on this album!
THE BAAAAND!

This is not the original I ever heard, in sound quality or arrangement.  But I'm delighted to hear it at all.  It's been 52 years since this classic passed into my head.  I'll take it any way Bill gets it out of my speakers.
timeless
EXCELLENT!!  This tune was actually released in 1968.  Thanx RP!
Since I was sure this had to have been originally released before 2005 (year of the compilation CD), I found this:

 Wikipedia wrote:

"Time Is Tight" is an instrumental recorded by Booker T. & the M.G.'s for their soundtrack to the 1968 film UpTight.

The group recorded two versions of the song – the shorter (3:14), slower version was released as a single in 1969, and became one of the biggest hits of the group's career, peaking at #7 R&B and #6 Pop.

The longer (4:55) version (which was included on the official soundtrack album) is played at a faster tempo than the single version, and features an extended introduction and an instrumental 'breakdown' section, neither of which was included in the single version.

Trying to get out the door - things I gotta do.  But, no wait, gotta listen to this iconic song.  The playlist has been so amazing tonight RP.  I'm gonna have to blow off those things I thought I needed to do.  I might miss something! LOVE this tune and well, LOVE Radio Paradise.

Oh, PS, I was right, cause now it's John Hiatt "Have a Little Faith in Me".  The amazing music will not quit.  Nope, it never should either.

Hey kids, put your money down on RP, support this amazing ground-breaking streaming station. Do it! Do it today! DO IT NOW!
Please play more tunes by Booker T & the MGs!!!  Thank You!
Duck Dunn!  Why I started playing bass along with major inspiration from James Jamerson.
An amazing visionary..... time is still tight!  ... even  tighter ?
My very first record, on a 45 single (for those old enough to remember them).  It started me on this wild, beautiful love of music - and I still have it!
A trip back to my pre-teen days !  Love it !
I need to find some Booker T dammit!!!!

The song's last 10 seconds plus the quiet outro is missing, or at least your RP station ID stepped on it un-gracefully.
This is the shit!!!

Heh. Wonder how Booker T feels about his tune being linked to Jake and Elwood instead of his name more directly.

He's probably crying all the way to the bank!

Can't believe this hasn't been played since 2004. Bill, please play this ( and about a thousand others) and silence the "played too much" critics.
Time to blow the dust off of this classic! Would love to hear it back in the rotation.

Who wants an orange whip? Orange whip? Orange whip? Three orange whips. Oh wait, somone wrote that already.
My all-time fave Booker T tune is "Still Can't FInd What I'm Looking For". It sounds better than than U2's version. Booker's organ has a better voice...

Saw Booker T at the Crossroads Guitar Festival this past June (actually listened to their set while going back out to get my arm band to allow me on the field.) Spine tingling to hear the original performed live by originals.
OMG!!!

Anything with a Hammond B-3 suits me just fine..."low quality" sound or no....

The Clash used to play this at soundchecks!! There's a great version on "Black Market Clash"
Agreed. The version on Black Market Clash is quite good, especially when combined with the reggae cuts "Armageddon Time" and "Bank Robber". Of course, the original is superlative.
Low quality sound, find a better source !

Actually, this was ripped via WMA Workshop from the cd, at 192. Sorry if the sound is sub-par.

Yep....right after you hear the intro of this song is the part of the movie when John Candy pulls up a seat with some of Illinois finest and tells them he wants to see the Blues Brothers play before he busts them. "Hey, I've never seen these guys. Orange Whip? Orange Whip? (to waitress) Three Orange Whips" Classic. RIP John.
A template of Stax from the late 60s. If you saw "The Blues Brothers," parts of this will come back to you at once. Donald "Duck" Dunn and Steve Cropper were in Booker's band as well as the BBs.
