I was never more happy when our band was submitted for a couple of Grammys (submitted, not nominated). And we were in the list right above FOW (this album)!

My home was just 4 miles away from there for 28 years before retiring and moving way up north. And like rd wrote, they sold lawn ornaments including, of course, fountains. I count myself lucky and blessed to have seen this fabulously talented group play at Shinjuku's Liquid Room not long after this came out...and they were absolutely superb in every way. It was a magical time of my life; I was feeling reborn again in Japan, in the best part of wild and wonderful Tokyo, after the abyssal fracture of divorce and family betrayal made being "home" more painful than being on the other side of the planet... Of course, getting a foothold there and digging in to the extent to be able to enjoy it was a huge challenge -- but thanks to RP and the frequent live acts that came my way while there, I felt incredibly confident, inspired, and capable, and stayed for a full decade, until the Fukushima Disaster -- that no one wants to talk about but is still unfolding, still releasing unimaginable amounts of heat and radiation that are and surely will continue to be deadly. I mourn the loss of Adam Schlesinger, who also made Ivy such a great band, to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I firmly believe that we, thanks to RP, can keep the spirit of his clever, gifted vision alive through the power of music like this! And what a great song this is! It was a favorite of Shoko's and mine. I'm forever grateful that RP can always and forever help to connect me to the Best of Everything!

Funny, I was going to post about the Fountains of Wayne retail location being the source of the bands name and then saw this post. I used to live about twelve miles away form there. I was watching Sopranos re-runs the other night, and Tony went to buy a lawn ornament at a store called "Fountains of Wayne" Turns out it's a real store and the band took their name from it

I guess I'm no rock star...but this band makes me sad...I mean you are an Oasis knock-off..so you are a carbon copy of a mediocre band with a few solid tunes. come on RP, you're better than that.

Great CD! I can't say I'd pick this to respresent it - sounds like an Oasis copy.
There was this great restaurant next to Fountains of Wayne on route 3, I cannot remember what it was called, but I am pretty sure it is closed down now.
Normally I enjoy the uniqueness and originality of Fountains of Wayne. But this song just sounds drab. It's the kind of song you forget about thirty seconds after hearing it.
Great band. They were on Austin City Limits once and they rocked.

I got this CD for my son (age 11) the other day and he loved it. He looked askance at the cover and then I heard him start to play it in his room. An hour later he came downstairs eyes shining with glee. Really great moment being able to share some music.

Awesome! I've never heard FoW on RP before, though maybe I just have bad timing. "Supercollider" isn't my favourite of their tracks, though... be nice to see something like "New Routine" or "Sink To the Bottom" get some play.

Brilliant, clever, tongue-in-cheek derivative. Totally satisfying. Good boys these.
This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands of all time. . . and I am thrilled to hear it on RP.
Good lyrics, but the vocals detract a bit. 
Just a lovely, FAT, luscious trippy sound -- a beautiful song by a very clever band. Thanks, Bill, for turning me onto these guys years ago when this came out!

Gotta agree here. I think these guys are perfectly aware of every sound they borrow, every riff they rip-off. The fact that they do it very well is their real achievement.

the dreamy sliding tempos and sitar-like pitch waverings of the vocals, keys, and strings...
and the drums aren't bad either...
Saw these guys jam at Liquid Room in Shinjuku a couple years ago, and this one had us all spinning pretty good!

I can't decide if what you hear in this band is original or actually a "lifting" of some other stuff. I mean, it seems like you've heard this song before, that somebody else wrote it, that your friend mentioned it one time, and that it's not new. But it's okay, nonetheless. 
Ya hafta like "pop" music to like these guys. When they come up on rotation on my ipod, sometimes I listen, sometimes I skip. I've got to be in the right mood.
