You never learnt to economise
You look around and before you know
It's gone, turned to dust
There she goes
Plays the part of sorrow
In the garden running free
Steady nerves, taking all the hard knocks
You've only got yourself
Falling out of love
Making other plans
Lady knows how to go
Making eyes in a photograph
But we all know you're a lonely girl
All sad and lost
There she goes
Walking out the front door
You've only got yourself in deep
Daily life driven to a cold heart
The only god you know is greed
People in my head it goes
Break up the band
Man overboard
See Hollywood
Run out of cash
Get out of bed
Call off the dogs
Take out the trash
Stare at the sun
Man on the tracks
Cat out the bag
Sit on the fence
You got blood on your hands
Run out of luck
Lay down your arms
Curled on your bed
And then do it all again
Are times so lost
You wear the look of a modern girl
You wander round like a loaded gun
Armed for the cause
There she goes
Walking out the front door
You've only got yourself in deep
Lord knows I closed your eyes for so long
You're in the garden running free
I hear "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by TfF. And I'm enjoying this song, too!
Well maybe "Sowing the Seeds of Love" was veeeeeeeeery inspired by the Beatles...
It's a good song, they have many good tunes. My prior post was deliberately sarcastic, as indicated by the somewhat unknown sarcasm symbol: ";s".
Semi colon s = sarcasm?
How about colon s then?
Check out this fascinating article (https://the-toast.net/2015/06/22/a-linguist-explains-how-we-write-sarcasm-on-the-internet/) - It is much more in depth than the research I completed 20 years ago. She talks about the earliest attempts at creating a percontation point to the latter attempts at the irony mark - and the current "smiley-type" trend of using ;S, we the people using language have come up with a lot of ways to indicate our attempts at writing or speaking disingenuously.
PS - I rated this track as a bit better than average at a 7. LLRP!!
There are 13 suggestions on Acronymfinder.com for "LLRP" -- but "Long-Live Radio Paradise" is not one of them, so I'm going with "Low-Level Recognition Processor".
Great album, by the way.
I'd say yes, but you've got more than six thumbs up so I might be wrong.
Definitely , I hear Beatles and pepper it with new wave and this is it
Great album, by the way.
I hear Supergrass:-) Yes it is good!
Great album, by the way.
No

I'm glad someone finally said it.
Great album, by the way.
yes, Tears for Fears all the way
Do you honestly think that the Beatles were gods who just poofed every single one of their melodic structures into existence from pure void? Try googling "skiffle" or "Lonnie Donegan". Or even Elvis, for chrissakes....
Supergrass is an extremely under-rated band that didn't get half as much as attention as they should have. I was sad when they broke up.
x2. badfinger, tom petty, jeff lynne . . .
Someone say "Goo goo g'joob" already!
Sounds like World Party to my ears!
yes. before he started singing, i thought it was her.

Indicating sarcasm in writing has been an issue for hundreds of years, and solutions have been proposed since at least the 1500s. I did some research on this issue when I took Linguistics at the Univ. of Wash in the late 90s; of course at that time I wasn't able to just "Google" it and get an answer. And I think the problem of unmarked, and therefore unnoticed, irony/sarcasm has gotten worse with electronic writing having replaced handwriting as much as it has, and it also seems like people are more prone to sarcastic remarks in the 21st century than before (...and that is based completely on my own decision to say it...) and there really should be an acceptable standard to denoting sarcasm in writing.

Apparently that also means "sarcastic". Oh, the humanity!

Cats.
You are not the egg man or A semolina pilchard,Gaz.
Yes, done on purpose but the band was foolish enough to believe that no one on the entire planet would realize that they were "stealing" from The Beatles. Unfortunately, Supergrass underestimated the exemplary music-detective prowess of the RP listening audience.
;s
You're overestimating your own detective qualities. Anybody who has ever heard the Beatles can hear how this was inspired/stolen/... Supergrass knows that anybody will hear it. Btw so many bands did this, e.g. Tears for Fears, Oasis. Oh, and the Beatles and the Stones themselves borrowed quite heavily from others as well. So what?
Funny who it still sounds like Supergrass. Not their best song though...

I was just wondering what Beatles album this was from, since I hadn't heard it before.
A stellar band with a wonderful back catalog.
Those poor Beatles with no one but Racquel to defend their copyrighted and patented sound. You'd think they were blues singers or something.
Just for that, I'm giving it a 7. And an extra 1 because I like them
I'm bumping it from 7 to 8. More Supergrass please.
Ha! You sound like a troll so I give you a 1 and you can fuck off too.
so tell us how you really feel about them
This sounds like the Beatles? Didn't know Supergrass were fakers, either. Thanks for the very educational post. Boy... other than all that, what a great band and great song.
I am actually getting more of a Beatles vibe.
Vibe?? Borrow from the best they say......coo coo ca shoo...
I could so use some Supergrass myself.
In order to keep this comment at least somewhat relevant to the song, I find this band somewhat hit or miss for the most part. I have nothing against this song at all, but it just doesn't exactly grab me. If I wasn't sitting next to the computer and grinding my teeth in annoyance, I would forget that any music was on at all.
Not bad, it has grown on me over the years.

I agree. The Beatles borrowed too.
John said he hated "Run For Your Life" because he "nicked" Elvis.
Nothing is created in a vacuum.

You made me look up HMV. For those like me who haven't heard of it, HMV is a retail entertainment chain selling CDs, among other things. It is the largest such chain in the UK and Canada.
I agree, I kept drifting off with good memories of Beatles remade. Catchy tune, popish, but me likes this band. This is what RP is all about, something new, different and not likely to hear on mainstream, generic airwaves. The eclectic variety that keeps me coming back for more RP and for more obscure bands and albums to add to the buy list. Keep it up Bill!.
I couldn't disagree more. A sublime song on Supergrass's best album. As several posters below have noted, this one's loaded with all sorts of reverential references from the Beatles to Jellyfish, a summation with legs of its own.
Sounds enough like a rip-off that the MJ Estate should be making money off this song!!
Oh, cheer up, I'm sure it's not that bad. A little exercise, a healthier diet and those pounds will just melt off.
sounds like Tears for Fears doing the Beetles
and I like it!
It's a kick @ss song.
No, it's a kick teeth song.

Oh! I thought that was just an outright imitation.
Yeah, one of the weak points on the album. Generally good though. I'm glad I picked up the whole thing.

Odd... today's set:
8:57 am - Supergrass - Sad Girl
8:53 am - Miss Chaos - Surrendered
8:46 am - Kronos Quartet - Lux Aeterna
8:42 am - Garbage - The Trick is to Keep Breathin
8:39 am - Catherine Wheel - Crank
Gotta wonder why the Miss Chaos song was changed.... unless the name was wrong before, perhaps?
It's like Deja Vu all over again!!
Some most excellent masters are indeed at the controls here...
Go ahead and set 'em for the rocking heart of the Galaxy, Bill and 'Becca! TASTY JAM!
