Farewell, your springs of joy are dry
My soul now seeks another home
A brighter world on high
I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down
Farewell kind friends whose tender care
Has long engaged my love
Your fond embrace I now exchange
For better friends above
I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down...
Good grief these gals are great!
Gosh, they're grand and glorious! ; )
And I'm here from the future to tell you that The Wailin' Jennys are STILL followed by Queen with "Somebody to Love" Hail Bill!!
Nice - today while listening to My Favorites, this tune was followed up with Supertramp's "Goodbye Stranger" - another great combo even if the My Fav is a random play of my 8+ rated songs.
Long Live RP and BillG's segue-craft in all the mixes provided, intentional or not!
7 to 8 today, and followed by Queen's "Somebody to Love" was a song choice of BillG caliber....top notch...Long Live RP!!

I'm pretty sure that's not a prerequisite.

This one and the song "The Parting Glass" have been played at my father's and brothers' funerals and will be played at mine.
Well duh - it's their genre. Same way punk is all similar.

Genius. Time to contribute.
Its in my playlist as well. though have Lonesome Sisters "When the Angels Call My Name" in the numero uno spot
Agreed. I hadn't rated it but it is a solid 9. Beautiful.
I love being married to a second alto; we blend well. There is something to be said for female baritones.
Interestingly, none of them were wailin' either. Very sweet and soulful.
Thanks for the intro.
Very pretty voices and arrangement.
Ditto.
thanks Bill!
Energy can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed.
Sorry about your loss.
Heaven is a better place.

Autofill problems again?
Hee, hee.
We thought you was a toad.
My family is from the mountains of Southwestern VA and North Carolina and I grew up with Blue Grass, Folk, Mountain Music, etc.
My parents dragged me to many a Blue Grass Festival in the '60s and '70s when I was a young, impressionable lad.
Mom just passed away and I plan on using this wonderful song at her service.
Love the Jennys
I agree! Harmonies are uplifting.

The continuing rant on another of their songs. https://www.radioparadise.com/?name=songinfo&song_id=42323
I for won love the pun.
I don't understand words, but these voices are very close to me. With pleasure has voted.

Ruth Moody no longer needs to be compared to other singers...Rather, she deserves her place in the 2nd half of those statements!
You have to see them live. Not to pick favorites, but Ruth Moody could raise goosebumps on the angels on the head of the pin.
Alternatively you could re-normalize your ratings. Otherwise we're just going to have to keep upping the damned max rating every month or two.

Like Alison Krauss or another singer... I just can't remember her name...

It just occurred to me that "Wailin' Jennys" could be construed as a play on "Waylon Jennings". Am I simply "late to the party", or am I finding humor where it wasn't intended.
better late than never, I guess...
Sounds like a good name for a band.

I think this piece is proof that a song does not need to be complex to be beautiful. The structure is about as straight-forward as you can get, the harmonies are beautiful but not particularly unique, and yet you take the whole together and it is somehow profound.

Yes!
Simply perfect. Totally agree.
