J'traînais les pieds, des casseroles
J'n'aimais pas beaucoup l'école
J'traînais les pieds, mes guiboles abîmées
J'explorais mon quartier

J'traînais des pieds dans mon café
Les vieux à la belote braillaient
Pappy, Mammy, tonton André et toutes ces pépées
A mes p'tits soins, à m'pouponner

translation from lyricstranslate.com:

I would drag my feet and my saucepans
I didn't like school that much
I would drag my feet with my aching legs
Exploring my neighborhood

I would drag my feet across my cafe
Old people would be yelling while playing Belote
Grandpa, Grandma, uncle André and all those biddies
Pampering and babying me

Grazed is my face, grazed are my knees
Grazed is my soggy little heart
Busted are my shoes, busted on my cheek
Busted are our leftovers

The Beef Bourguignon's steam*
The whole family running the Tour
At the time when we could play the fools
Residents and regulars
Short-stay guests, especially in summer
Quite a happy mess in my cafe!

Grazed is my face, grazed are my knees
Grazed is my soggy little heart
Swept is the terrace, all in the past is the "tiny tot"
All in the past are our leftovers

I drag my feet, I drag my saucepans
I still don't like school

Grazed is my face, grazed are my knees
Grazed is my soggy little heart
Busted are my shoes, busted on my cheek
Busted are our leftovers

80% of french songs (O Ruiz included) and music is BS, i'm not talking 'bout radio stations here, they are same s***t  for 98% , i'm french i know it, why i'm a RP listener  tkx to make me travel in others sounds.
Never thought I'd heard her on Radio Paradise!
The entire album is really nice -- but much more enjoyable if you understand the lyrics.

Sorry thaty the France makes you disappointed... But that's only that's not the same singer !!!
Edith Sang in a brothel, and Olivia sing whith her girl heart.
Can undestand why you're so disappointed, after this explanantion, but i don't share your opinion !
We heard this one over and over on French radios so I like it a little less than the first time I heard it.
Her voice is special, not everybody likes it, so no, not "all French singers sound the same"!

Maybe to emphasise their femininity.

She also sings this song in Spanish, together with Julieta Venegas. Sounds dreadful, compared with this version.

Trés belle, trés jolie, et aussi la chanson ;). Huite points.

So random..... I was boating with some friends this weekend, one of whom happens to be French, who played this song and I really really enjoyed it. Happy now I know who it is! (there was a bit of alcohol involved and I promptly forgot....) Thanks RP!
I want her
Oh it's a good surprise to hear a french musician like Olivia Ruiz on Radioparadise{#Angel}!
The use of a doggie squeak toy as a sampled sound in the music kills it for me...
It's nice to hear modern french songs on Radio Paradise!

I drag my feet I believe is the title. I'd be dragging my feet to this show too.

If you speak the lingo or not in any country, if it sounds like syhte, then it's shyte - There may have a few decent artists from France but compare that to the land of zee rosbifs, I make my point, zee rosbifs have my permission to comment!

Worse song of the day so far - makes it even worse being in French! Living in France, you soon realize just how shyte the music is!

Reminds me of Noir Desir's "Le Vent Nous Portera". Both French, both contain some of the same instruments (most notably, the clarinet)...of course, this song is a little more upbeat, but both are quite nice.

I've been to Paris but can barely discern the meaning of French phrases. I believe the title of the album translates to Chocolate Woman. It is a precious musical idea that lies therein.
Make me want to traîne mes Pieds as well! {#Bananapiano}

Awwww, clarinet. I have soft spot for clarinet, no matter the language. (My name is Claire, but I don't understand ze French.)
Very nice song it's amazing to see most of foreign singers, are are systematically poorly rated. I listen to singers American or English all day, and I appreciate some of them, yet I do not speak English. I thank radioparadise.com to make us listen to songs really different

Nonsense. Do you really believe, the 'structures' of French require a special kind of music?? Inform yourself about the bandwidth of French music.
I can't deny one should, but actually there does appear to be an effect of prosody, language rhythm (i.e. of the composer's native language) on musical rhythm - it's been researched and published. Compare for example the rhythmic structures of 'Frere Jacques' and 'London Bridge Is Falling Down'. I don't have a source at hand, but it should be quite easy to find. EDIT: here's the article for those interested

Okay, I'm seeing Marcel Marceau with his insidious smile, dancing outside a cafe with a bowler hat and a cane, his eyes staring madly at me as if to say, "You're next, mon ami!" *shiver*
I LIKE this song.

For a good intro/selection of contemporary French music, I highly recommend a visit or two to the Radio Blagon site (Bordeaux, France). Kind of a French equivalent of Radio Paradise. "RadioBlagon, la scÚne alternative francophone webradio podcasts." www.radioblagon.com Quelle surprise! There is even a Wiki entry for the station: wiki/Radio_Blagon ...mes deux centimes --Eric

And no, it doesn't sound all the same. hehe Good on you for asking. I should upload Harmonium's Je dis bonjour à la vie recorded in Québec in the mid-1970s and some SLAM music by Grand Corps Malade which is French but with a rather interesting socio-cultural twist. I find this particular song by Ruiz rather irritating but not too irksome.
