Not my favorite of Tuku's songs (that would be "Tapera" which I don't think is in RP's rotation) but a top track nonetheless. One of those rare artists with nary a misstep in his catalog. A god in his native Zim.

I know that this is from Zimbabwe. Different rythmic patterns can be found in many instances of African music.
It is an interesting aspect of original West African Mandinka (Kora music, from Mali, at the core of the ancient empire of Timbuktu) that explains the subtelties of the very complex interplay of sounds. But it is also present in traditional Brazilian Samba. Bossa Nova is an attempt to readjust patterns to Western music. Quite fascinating.
