And meet at the burial ground
They've undid the aerial
Tore down the merry-go-round
This world's all wrong
So let's go where we belong
Pack up the stereo, meet at the burial ground
Here among the fallen leaves
Are we alone the ones that dare to breathe?
Throw your worries down, they're oh so gravely held
You have carried them so well
Len, come down
And meet at the burial ground
They've undid the aerial
Tore down the merry-go-round
This world's all wrong
So let's go where we belong
Pack up the stereo, meet at the burial ground
You laid down below a stone
Saying, Wherever they have gone, I long to go
Somewhere out beyond these maladies in my head
At least I think that's what you said
Len, come down
And meet at the burial ground
They've undid the aerial
Tore down the merry-go-round
This world's all wrong
So let's go where we belong
Pack up the stereo, meet at the burial ground
Len, come down
And meet at the burial ground
They've undid the aerial
Tore down the merry-go-round
This world's all wrong
So let's go where we belong
Pack up the stereo, meet at the burial ground
Contract malaria, meet at the burial ground!
I keep hearing snatches of Sloop John B:
I feel so broke up
I wanna go home
Same. I heard beach boys and thought of sjb but thought I may be losing it.

So true
I recommend seeing them live. I was really surprised at what a good showman Colin was--and they were all great!
I second that. Saw them for the first time on Saturday night and they were excellent.
Ah is that why I keep hearing Sloop John B?
The James Mercer influence is palpable here. He is so good at crafting those little lyrical pop hooks. The weak part of the song for me is the pitch on the trumpet fill. But still a 7-8 for me.
I think it's cool that The Decemberists gave us a rock song that contains a trumpet fill! Not a lot of bands can pull that off, or would even think of doing so.
an very well-crafted song but for some reason I have limited tolerance for Colin Meloy's perpetually straining tinny voice. there are a lot of frontmen in rock who make up for a questionable instrument with charismatic delivery but he just doesn't get there for me unfortunately.

That's a relief, I thought it was my imagination - and yes, Sloop John B !
I feel so broke up
I wanna go home
