Well I guess you left me with some feathers in my hand
Did it make it any easier to leave me where I stand?
I guess there might not be too many who would stand beside you now
Where'd you come from? Where am I going?
Why'd you leave me 'till I'm only good for...

Waiting for you
All my sins...
I said that I would pay for them if I could come back to you
All my innocence is wasted on the dead and dreaming

Every night these silhouettes appear above my head
Little angels of the silences that climb into my bed and whisper
Every time I fall asleep Every time I dream
Did you come? Would you lie?
Why'd you leave us 'till we're only good for...

Waiting for you
All my sins...
I said that I would pay for them if I could come back to you
All my innocence is wasted on the dead and dreaming

I dream of Michelangelo when I'm lying in my bed
Little angels hang above my head and read me like an open book
Suck my blood, break my nerve offer me their arms
Well, I will not be an enemy of anything
I'll only stand here

Waiting for you
All my sins...
I said that I would pay for them if I could come back to you
All my innocence is wasted on the dead and dreaming

Man, this is just making me want to put my head through a wall.
A band with many highs and lows, but I'm fond of these guys anyway.

You know a song has truly died when it's fallen from the heights of hip coolness over many years to reach your ears in some sanitized form while you're shopping in a supermarket. It'd be great if the "associates" there hijacked the sound system and played anything with an edge, but management types have no doubt locked down the audio stream after a few such audio incidents.

Interesting, I was walking through Kroger (the big grocery store) only to hear the Ramone's "Rock and Roll High School" come over the speakers.
These guys are just so darned earnest, and there's something I find totally endearing about that.
I love Counting Crows. Tuning out all the haters and just enjoying the song.
At first when Adam changed up the cadence & diction of the lyrics on these early pieces . I did not like it!
Somehow this one has really grown on me!
Love it now!!!

Arm Chair Critics Paradise? I like that moniker and give it a solid 9 out of 10.
I prefer the studio version, but this is pretty nice.

You will soon hear from my lawyers

They want song recommendations :-)
I am conflicted about them.  Saw them at Ravinia last summer and they are a darn good band.  BUT - Adam Duritz is so blasted arrogant and immature in my mind.  He's definitely in a long line of many before him, but somehow he's less tolerable.  Just sayin'
They should move to Halifax Nova Scotia and become Maritime Bar Gods forever.
Interesting band that stuck with the basic chords and riffs and just really never got bugged by sounding like other people all the time. They clearly found a niche since some of their songs seem like classics.
I don't know but for some reason I really don't like Counting Crows, especially the singer.  I think I should like them but can't bring myself to do so.  Same with Bob Seger and John Mellencamp.  I am like Pavlov's dogs in that when I hear any of these artists I instantly react to changing the channels- total reflex!
I prefer the “thrash” version. Was a fantastic start to the gig I saw in Wolverhampton. Lights went down, music exploded. ! A gig to remember.
jolie voix !! des anges silencieux !! et avec accordéon très latin !!!

Thank you for reminding me.  I sat suffering in silence, i.e. took off my headphones for the first time in an hour.  Absorbed in a cross word puzzle, I failed to think of PSD.

Better now with some Romanian violin music taking over.  LLRP!

Takes a lotta guts to say so
But seriously, I'm fully with you. Never been the greatest of CC fans, but I can certainly appreciate some of their songs. So here it is: I like Counting Crows.

Bland and simply Bad!
Brutal comments and low rating by the RP community, but I like this song.  And I’m really not that much of a CC fan.
I still like to sing along with this one ...

Same here.
Turrible.  Just turrible.
One of their best songs - I like both versions.
I'm a longtime CC fan and don't even mind Adam D's vocals. The quality of their albums took a dip for awhile but newest one, Somewhere Under Wonderland, is up there with their best.
you got the info all wrong Bill. the year is 1968, and this is the Dead.

A few Angels indeed.
I still like CC and "Across a Wire" - good singalong music in the car.

Not even vanilla to me, more like stale, crustless, cold, under-toasted Wonder® Bread with a miserly pat of margarine instead of butter.  Otherwise, they're okay; they had some decent tunes.  Some folks really like them; to each his own.
hmm
Nails on a chalkboard.
I always listen to this app, especially in the mornings before work.
Not a fan of the album cover shots, takes away from the images. Now it looks like all of the other apps.
Leave it clean, brother
It might be interesting to hear other artists (with distinctive voices) do covers of some of the CC songs. Because I do like Adam Duritz's voice but it can be annoying at times, like in this song. Does anyone know of any CC covers? Mr. Bill Goldsmith?

The sad part is that the first album isn't at all Hootie-like. There's some real artistry there and much of it isn't obviously "commercial" (especially during the grunge era, when it came out). The second album (with this song) rocks a bit more and is rather self-reflective but still has some good songs. After that, yeah, they became a pretty generic pop-rock bad. Disappointing and precipitous decline.

This is a nice version of a decent song, FWIW.

Sigh.  So many mixed feelings on this one.  I still love August and Everything After, and tried really hard -- sometimes successfully -- to like Recovering the Satellites.  And so I bought this album when it came out with high hopes.  It's just disappointing.  Duritz et al really do need their producer to sound great.  Or rather, to sound good.  Even decent.  I just can't get behind this one.
I like the Counting Crows and this cd. This particular cut is a little too chill-ish for me at this moment. It fits the current playlist well however.

Some of DMB is good. Most of it is overplayed jam crap that aging Abecrombie and Fitch wearing VPs listen to as they're micromanging people to death, to make them "relate" with the grunts.

 jojopodo wrote:

won't comment on DMB, but as for CC, their first album is solid winner a front-to-back IMO and the second album had some spots of greatness too... it was after that that they descended into suckyville (I never thought it possible for me to hate Big Yellow Taxi more than the original, but they pulled it off)...

Same sound different song title. I can't tell one of these songs apart from the other. Not a bad sound, just super redundant.Silence is a nice sound too.
CC is like bohemian elevator music. It's not offensive or anything, but you just kind of tune it out.
great musicality and arrangement - the space the band members give each other and the counter playing is well done

Counting Crows playing for free in Grant Park this summer! They are really good, even if Adam can be a bit of a dick.

I've listened to this disk a few times recently, broken out of the collection from, whats it been, 10 years ago. It is pretty good, but I think they stretched the 'new arrangements' a little on some songs; it shows, and sounds a bit too artistic toward the end of the album (a little too much of the spoken-lyrics-thing). In other places (Catapult, and this song stand out), I think they did a better job than the original!

I like the original electric version but this one sounds thin and dry and just lacks any kinda substance...imo

Actually, it is a fact that the Counting Crows and Dave Matthews' Band are the two worst bands of the 90's.  Thus, there was no need for the poster to include any qualification.

He did say "probably", which goes nearly as far as "In my opinion". There's no need to be so tough on him, cowboy.

Interesting, going from Van Morrison to Counting Crows. I remember thinking, when the Crows' first single came out in the nineties, just how much the singer sounded like Van. Scarily so!

He also is ignoring such gems as Toad the Wet Sprocket and Nickelback . . . in my humble opinion.

He did say probably. And being correct also helps his case.

Poor Adam. I read an interview with him in Blender, and he bemoaned the fact he didn't live the life a "Rock Star" should. What a sap. He never was a rock star.

This is really a nicely done song and if it wasn't for the baggage that CC carries I would wager some of the comments would be different. The acoustic version is good stuff.
