In the swirling of this storm
When I'm rolling with the punches
And hope is gone
Leave a light, a light on
Millions of miles from home
In the swirling, swimming on
When I'm rolling with the thunder
But bleed from thorns
Leave a light, a light on
Leave a light, a light on
In the darkness before the dawn
In the darkness before the dawn
Leave a light, a light on
Leave a light, a light on

Radio Paradise is playing another Coldplay song! Hurry and rush to the Comments section and post a comment about how much you hate this band! Because we all really, really, really want to hear your constant whining and petty remarks about this particular band!
Oh come on. Just because they're huge doesn't automatically make them bad. I saw them live at Exeter and they were fantastic. I can speak from experience having seen many live bands both unknown and famous ie Van Morrison, Richie Havens, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc etc and they simply do stand up as a decent band. I find that many people discount Coldplay as they are big but the very fact that they are where they are is due to the quality of what they do. Watch the brilliant documentary about them and you'll see that its passion and ability that has put them where they are. If they were a small indie band I'm sure opinions would be different.

I do actually like this one. I think the Vocoder adds a nice touch. And I "forgive" you William for misspelling "duplicitous". Or were you mashing that up with delicious?
; P
Just kidding! This song is OK in kind of a meditative way - not great, but not bad either.
No need to join the bandwagon for that.
Facts are facts.
I wish RP had an option to NOT view comments for this exact reason!
Go to settings and under info options select two columns and never scroll down past lyrics.
Edit: And today as it plays, I'm reading about another school shooting

Wow. Thanks for the heads up.
I was kinda enjoying this song until I read your comment and realized it was Coldplay.
So anyways, this band is brutally bad.
But ask yourself, who is the one whining?
And you are a dumbass troll
Many would disagree. Sounds like you're just jumping, and being a follower, on the "I hate Coldplay" bandwagon.

Coldplay is generally OK with me, but still don't like this.

Hahah!!! Good one. :D
Unfortunately, no vocoder could save Thom Yorke of not sounding pitiful as he is. ;)

"Oh, l like this sound in Depeche Mode... let's make an easy tune.... yes, gimme 5 secondes... oops, my fingers went wrong... but, Oh, sounds good anyway!.. OK, I got the melody.
OK, we have a hit, guys!"
It's cool & all when Imogen Heap does it (https://www.ethanhein.com/wp/2010/imogen-heap/), but not so much for Coldplay. (Not to say that I don't love Imogen's music.)
HOw about Rundgren's "Born to Synthesize"?
Yep, it's a Vocoder, but that's not what Walsh and Frampton used, that was a Talk Box:

RIP Coldplay. You were actually a decent band once upon a time.

Particularly like it in sequence with a bit of Led Zep (Your Time is Gonna Come), good choice Bill as usual!

OK, I find this really funny. These comments made me go listen to some Kraftwerk this afternoon. As a result, I discovered that the main opening riff for Coldplay's Talk was very blatantly ripped from the Kraftwerk song Computer Love.
I think I'm sensitive to this riff because it also happens to be the ringtone on my wife's phone for the past five years (the Coldplay version)...
Yes, and they had asked Kraftwerk if they could use it and Kraftwerk said "Go for it!" So what's the problem? Riffs are ripped, borrowed or stolen all the time...some are just better hidden than others.
Or Tangerine Dream.
Both of you: Please do not insult Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream !
Or Tangerine Dream.
Is no ghost story.

Moved it up a notch, to 8.
Haha, nailed it. Like it a lot even if it's Limp Bizkit ;)

Just curious, Bill: in your opinion which performer or song is the worst abuser of auto-tune? I remember hearing a raw recording of Julio Iglesias's kid that someone smuggled out of the studio: the guy could not carry a tune.
Isn't that the point of recording in a modern studio?; practicing, getting that muscle memory, finding sounds, re-recording, dropping in and out, mixing, fading, effecting, mastering trying to produce something nice, ear catching, popular, moody etc, all with the threat that you may have used the same chord sequence somewhere owned by a lawyer in China who will sue your ass..........
That said, the likes of coldplay & U2, strumm along with the orchestra , a chord sequence bought and varified litigation free .... they seem to have a following of people who like the songs cause they can sing along, also with the intonation of a sweeping brush pulled from a pond and wrapped tight in fishing line!
Julio sings live more than he records, (even in the school yard) and thats proof enough for me that he should be up there.
This is an amazing song!

Makes me think of Tom Bodett's Motel 6 adds. Or something to play in the first settlement on Mars.
Gets a 3 from me for the ruinous vocal 'styling'.
To you. I rather like the electronica of this. I like the kraftwerk, i like the use of the, possibly, autotune, well done use of tradition and a great redemption from some of that pop crap they did.
I will never forgive Coldplay for not using it for the last ten years.
I will never forgive Coldplay for ripping off Joe Satriani. That and they are lousy musicians.
This is an electronic vocoder/harmony effect — a deliberate manipulation of the voice to achieve a particular effect — rather than auto-tune. Auto-tune alters just the pitch of voice recordings to compensate for errors made by the vocalist.
The effect may not be to your liking, but it's not duplicious in the way that auto-tune generally is.

Ummm, not a ripoff. Used with permission from Kraftwerk... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_%28song%29
"Yes, you can use it, and thank you very much for asking my permission, unlike that bastard Jay-Z."

People have been ripping off and/or influenced by (take your pick) Kraftwerk for about forty years. This song doesn't sound like any specific Kraftwerk tune to me.
I like it.
eloquent description..
I like it.
The only way to get it is to find a fan, turn it on, and sing into it.
Got it. Thanks.
The Imogen Heap vocal effect seems to work fine in the context of the song.
I was lukewarm on mid-career Coldplay , such as X&Y or Viva La Vida. Started losing interest.
Didn't like Milo Xyloto AT ALL. Next!
So far I'm finding this interesting, giving it a 7 with a possible bump in the future.
When they first came out, I thought Thom Yorke had pulled the trigger on himself and Radiohead found themselves a new singer. Not horrible, but certainly not original.
They then seemed to discover that the way to get rich is to write radio-friendly pop. That's when I wrote them off entirely.
Now, what was this? Somewhere underneath Massive Attack, dance-floor-friendly 90's trance-hop?
I'm giving this a 2.
Maybe in a decade I'll suddenly get them. It took about that long for me to realize Oasis was actually talented....
first time I've heared this, is it new? sounds good initially but hmm, then again ooh. I used to be indecisive but I'm not so sure now.

And I thought Coldplay was on the list of groups I dislike.
OK. I do not get this joke. Somebody, please, have pity and explain it to me.

Did he mean that in a good way or a bad way; isn't kale the most trendy and popular food in California?
Turn on a desk fan. Take a note, hold it, and sing into the spinning fan blades. Presto: Coldplay!
btw, I like this. CP might be coming relevant again.
