Thanks to our Canadian government, no USA booze in the liquor stores. I really miss my bourbon, haven't' had it in a few months or so. The closest i can come is with Canadian whiskey aged in American bourbon casks. Oh well. This Japanese offering is nice, albeit a bit more than i normally spend on whiskey, but hey, it was on special.
I'm with you. When I want a cocktail, I want good cocktail. It doesn't bother me to put a really good liquor into a mix(er). When I do, I try to use really good mixers too (real sugar coke, real sugar tonics, actual fruit juice (fresh if possible). A really good bourbon with a real sugar coke is a step above the bottom shelf stuff. It makes the experience better. If you're not drinking to just get sloshed, then you should be enjoying it.
Exactly. I enjoy my more expensive liquor purchases with just a bit of water. Only because if i spent more money for it i want to taste it.
But a good cocktail does deserve a decent liquor and a good mixer.

Macallan's is P's favorite. I just bought our annual bottle of scotch yesterday - Macallan 12-year.
She's got good taste - that's one of my favs too. I also really like Alberlour, now and then I find a 16 year on sale for under $100 and I splurge. I've got just a little left, but it's probably about 18 by now... been a while since I've found a deal.
When my grandfather died in the late 90s, I went out and purchased a bottle on my way to see my father and uncle that night. Picked up this... a 1980 bottle of Macallan 18.
They both drank scotch... I almost never do.
Fast forward to last Thursday... my aunt died. I picked up the half of a bottle left in the box, in my basement, and went over to my uncles. With my cousin and uncle, we drank about 80% of what was left.
I thought it was pretty damn good... but what do I know.
I just looked it up, and that bottle is now worth about $4k unopened.
