Thanks.  I've learned that the Cecropia Moth has a wingspan of nearly six inches (150mm).  The adult moth has no mouth parts and lives 7-10 days, just long enough to mate and lay eggs.

Saw this lovely one on the Virginia Creeper Trail last Monday. He/She had some kind of injury,... you can see the scuff mark pretty well. Probably got hit by a bike. I don't think he/she was poisonous... had circular pupils instead of slits. Thought it was a copperhead first, but after looking at the eyes, I don't think so. I guess it's some kind of water snake. These guys are regulars on the bridges of the Creeper Trail, especially when the sun is shining.

I'm not smart enough to figure out how to change the background color... red was fine with me

Yeah, it seems like the tail is cut off! But (s)he's beautiful! Nice photo, M!

Nah, the tail is just fine... It's just down in a crack.  They crawl up between the gaps in the bridge.  The scuff mark (injury) is on the left near the bend.. you can see the pink patch....

This one wasn't too big... just about the length of my arm.

Glad you explained that.  I was about to ask where you were relative to said festival chair. {#Lol}
