Hippiechick I dont have an email from you? You mean the post below? ok.

I admire your Obama enthuisiasm. I am not so sure about him or McCain. Either is going to inherit a deep pile of poo when they hit the White House. Which one will be better able to deal with it? I don't know that. Who has the best plan for the next eight years? I don't know that either.

If one thinks it's McCain they should go for that. Same with Obama. It's my choice. It's not up to me to convince you or anyone else of my choice by sifting thru the 10 kajillion posts here on this subject.

I also think that there should be a similar topic for McCain. The big problem there is that McCain is no longer recognizable as a Republican candidate. Especially as he spends more time positioning himself as some sort of independent running against the Republican Party and the current administration.

Which is what made me respect him....geez, I would've voted for him last time around....but now  I really question his strength of conviction after choosing the VP candidate he did....that was pure political maneuvering to keep the old guard GOP happy, and get him elected.  And it told me very clearly that getting elected was actually more important than being president to him, or he never would've made such an irresponsible move, selecting someone so clearly unqualified at this point in her career for the job at hand.

Obama also pulled some sleight of hand when he stated that "the average American family" saw its income "go down $2,000" under George Bush. That's not correct. Census figures show average family income went down
$348. As it turns out, when Obama said "average family income," he didn't mean "average," and he didn't mean "family," either. An Obama aide says he was really referring to median income – which is the midpoint – and not to the average. And Obama was talking only about "working families," not retired couples. For all families, median family income actually inched up under Bush by $272.

Well, yes, that does make much more sense.  If we were addressing the question of "How long can I expect ot live?" we would be much more interested in the mean average, not the simple average. When equating the simple average of life expectancy we must figure in infant mortality and childhood deaths. As a person who is well beyond those years, those figure are no longer relevant for me, so their elimination from the equation offers me a more realistic approximation of my life expectancy. Hence the median life expectancy.

As retired individuals will have no alteration of their income levels, being that they are on a fixed income derivative of their pensions, investments or social security, these figures do not have relevance in the equation of income by those whose incomes will fluctuate with the economic conditions of the moment. By including the fixed income numbers the per annum income is kept artificially inflated, giving the false impression of a positive increase in income, rather than the actual decrease witnessed and experienced by the general population.

Thanks for pointing out the sound insight of Barack Obama.

Why should I point you to something? That is for you and everyone else to find.

Why should you? Because you responded to my email.

Obama is my man! I believe in him all the way! He is a man of huge integrity, who believes in service to his country and making the world a better place to live. He does not believe in killing.

In all the posts, in all the discussions, here on RP, in all these months, no one has had ONE REASON to vote for McCain. We have heard all the negativity about Obama, and discussed around every issue, but no one has given a single reason t ovote for the Republican candidates, not even Ms Z, who has decided to join the negativity fray, after complaining about everyone else.

Actually, that is not true. Mugs, for example, has said that he would rather vote Republican because he fears the Democratic record on taxation and spending. Others have intimated that they would support the Republicans because of their view how the Supreme Court should be structured and how the Constitution should be interpreted. There has also been support for continued reduction in taxation and the size of government, both policy positions that the Republican party supports. Problem is that there are far more left-leaning voices in here than right-leaning.

This thread could provide a good opportunity to challenge the lies and smears against Obama as well as examine the truth of his positions and actions. In the interests of an informed electorate, I think that is a good idea.

I also think that there should be a similar topic for McCain. The big problem there is that McCain is no longer recognizable as a Republican candidate. Especially as he spends more time positioning himself as some sort of independent running against the Republican Party and the current administration.

This is a useful topic, if people stay on track, for there is truth to be told and smears and lies to be challenged. Probably should be a thread called

Truthiness Exposed About McCain, or get your TEAM here!

In the interest of fairness and balance, of course.

(Yeah, I know, "TEAM" is lame but it's the best I could come up wih.)

I love that you used "TAO" here in your thread title.

The word "tao" is translated as "way", "road", "method", "technique" or "principle". As a concept, Tao is the most important topic in the philosophical Taoism. The Tao is the model of conduct to be followed by the Taoist disciples. It is also the method (way) of attaining the unity with the Great Tao, the very goal of the Taoist philosophy. The word "tao" points further to the abilities of someone: a good archer, musician, painter or writer it was supposed to have his/her own tao. Chinese sovereigns showed very much interest in the gifted people - they were invited at the court, put to the test, and rewarded properly when they proved their skill.

The most important aspects of Tao are its unremarkable, unnoticed, everyday workings - "the softest thing in the world overcomes the hardest".

Because all beings are manifestations of Tao, Tao - by definition - gives of itself wholly and completely to each.

All things arise from Tao. They are nourished by Virtue. They are formed from matter. They are shaped by environment. Thus the ten thousand things all respect Tao and honour Virtue. Respect of Tao and honour of Virtue are not demanded. But they are in the nature of things. Therefore all things arise from Tao. By Virtue they are nourished, developed, cared for, sheltered, comforted, grown and protected. Creating without claiming; doing without taking credit; guiding without interfering - this is Primal Virtue.

Obama is indeed very much in synch with Tao and Taoism. I think that is very important. Thanks for pointing that out! {#Cheesygrin}
