One can only imagine that there will come a day when butchery isn't an accepted "cure" for cancer.

And not to take too much fun out of it... but she was also breaching to find some other whales... kind of a "halooooooooo! anybody out there?" Never thought of that, makes sense though. But the tail flips, and even just staying anywhere NEAR the boat, seems to indicate she understood the situation. Of course we try to apply human rationale to animal actions, but still. No matter, it's a wonderful story. The whale certainly would have died otherwise.

Hero? Bob Feller? How did I not remember that great man? His balls were bigger than my uncles(and FY to any wise commenters) On December 8, 1941, Feller enlisted in the Navy, volunteering immediately for combat service, becoming the first Major League Baseball player to do so following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7. Feller served as Gun Captain aboard the USS Alabama, and missed four seasons during his service in World War II, being decorated with five campaign ribbons and eight battle stars. His bunk is marked on the Alabama at Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. Feller is the only Chief Petty Officer in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Subsequent career One year after his return to Major League action, in 1946, he registered an incredible 348 strikeouts while pitching in 48 games, starting 42 of those games. That year Feller was 26-15 with an ERA of 2. 18 while pitching 36 complete games. He led the American League in strikeouts seven times and had 200 or more strikeouts five times. Feller pitched in 570 games during his career, and pitched in 40 or more games six seasons.

Other than Ted Williams(EDIT-Oops, somehow Forgot Mr. Bob Feller), most true heroes are unknown. They are the first, best and truest kind because their actions come from their hearts. If only we would all strive for such anonymity and humility, what a fine race the humans would be.

Anyone see this on 60 Minutes tonight? I wept like a baby. November 14, 2010 12:44 PM The first living soldier to win the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War tells Lara Logan in an emotional interview just what he did to earn the nation's highest combat honor and how the recognition makes him uncomfortable.
