in other news, we have a huge toad that lives under our patio. i hope he's okay, and hasn't drowned.
Amphibian. He'll be alright.

A couple of strollups - trying to act nonchalant. Then they took off their Lincoln hats and they were both bald? WTF?

A fox walking around the hood, and a butterfly which landed on my shoulder and sat there for a good while, until a bee chased it off.

It sounds like a fox to me, too. Coyotes are; well, they're Coyotes. You will know one when you see one. What I saw was not so exciting but more delicious.... lots of dewberries.

Maggie obviously smelled him because she dragged me outside first thing, like she was on a mission. We didn't see it until the end of our walk.

yeah. i think that's due, in part, to the fact that okc really is in the middle of the state, and, if you think about it, in the middle of nowhere. it's a (700 square mile big) city plopped into the middle of a country landscape. we have ducks and geese and egrets and various types of herons, and tons of other kinds of birds, and snakes, and coons, and skunks, and..and..and... but then, back in chicagoland, where you had to travel a considerable distance to find "country," we still had wild ducks and egrets and herons, and all those other critters, too...
