Almost every social advance in this country has been legislated by the Democrats and OPPOSED by the Republicans.  Unfortunately, the Big corporations with all their incredible accumulated wealth have succeeded more and more in heavily influencing the Democrats as well.  Getting Democrats to agree on something is like herding cats as they ssay. You got your sellout  Blue Dog Corporate Dems like Clinton and your  Progressive "We the People" Democrats like Feingold.  I would say the Gingrich revolution was a reigniton of the Reagan Revolution but in overdrive.
