True. As black321 wrote, people should self-regulate, though many don't seem to care. A lot of people reveal more than they should: when they'll be out of town, "extreme" opinions, criticisms of their workplace while still employed there, etc. It's one thing posting pictures of the lunch you had, but a lot of people give away too much. It's like this odd and annoying habit of people having phone conversations in public with their speakerphones turned on.

I'm not smart enough to know exactly what a china owned company could pull from phones, but it does seem menacing.
 consumers should be smart enough to self-regulate without the interference of the gov, but many just arent or dont care. 



Should we also worry about what the 'domestic' companies are extracting?  And how are we defining domestic? Is it location or loyalty, and how do we test/track loyalty (does party matter)?

Given what's going on with Meta & Mark Suckerberg, I'm seriously considering deleting my FB & IG accounts. I'm not very active on them at any rate.  I only have 15 friends on FB & have other ways to stay in touch. No big loss.
