I won't make people look at this, but here's a pic I took of one that hit the window, died, and there are berries spilling out of its mouth. If they were fermented, wouldn't you expect foam or something like with beer? I guess wine is fermented and doesn't bubble, right?
Sparkling wine and beer have bubbles because they are capped before fermentation ends. Sugar is turned into alcohol and carbon dioxide by the yeast; fermentation. Non-sparkly wine's yeast it killed with Sodium Bisulfite before capping.
Fermented? I've heard of birds getting drunk on old berries and crashing into things.
My neighbor mentioned the fermented thing to me, but these are freshly eaten berries, and they appear stuffed.

They don't even have to be fermented. The church my dad pastored in California had a big patch of these nasty thorny vines with bright red berries. The birds loved to eat them, but they got intoxicated. I forget what the vines were called. (Cats called them "lunch zones".)
all the kittahs available for adoption that we see each week at petsmart. I wish we could bring every one of them home.
Yeah. I avoid going in there on the weekends when they have those adoption clinics. Just like I avoid all those mall pet-stores with all the little puppies and kittens in the cages - too sad.

Yeah, I can't go in there. I have enough trouble just having 'The Cat Doctor' and 'Justice For Porsche' on my FB page. If I'm not careful I'll end up with a sweet kitty with a deformed leg (Sasquatch) and a rescued 100+ pound mastiff. My cat is the one-pet-per-household type, so that would not be a good thing.

Oh sweet jeebus yes, and I put myself through the sadness every time I shop there. I always go visit them, and I pet each one of them through the bars and talk to them and wish them luck in finding the perfect "forever family." Some of them look so tired and sad from not being able to move around......I have learned to stop reading their little placards explaining how they came to be there, though. That tore my heart out in the worst way!
I hate that. I lose about 10 or more because there's a big tree in my neighbor's yard that they eat the berries and can't fly well and ram my windows. Lots of loud bangs and little stunned birds; some of them die. Even with warning stickers, they can't seem to avoid the house.
i'm no expert, but i don't think they can read the warnings

I wonder if that was the issue with this little one......he/she looked very robust and healthy and well-fed.
A dead sparrow in the courtyard between my building and the other one.....looks like the poor thing flew into the glass windows of the enclosed walkway above.
