Just remembered this from a couple of days ago.  No link found, heard it on local radio news.

A Libyan judge is here in Cleveland to study American law.  He will be here until May.

They (Libyans) are so screwed.  Few towns rival Cleveland for public corruption, even Chitown pales in comparison.

Back when Dennis was still mayor, he brought in Richard Hongisto from San Fran to be his police chief.  Hongisto said upon leaving to return home to SF, that the biggest reason he came to Cleveland was to study East Coast corruption in the flesh.

The Hague (Haag, whatever) was a convenient way to avoid a polarizing trial in the Balkans for Milosevic and his cronies. They still had supporters there and there was real risk that if they were tried at home they'd get off, or at least rally supporters. Not much chance of that with the Gaddafis.

Hope so,we have spent enough money on this as it is.

It really is awful. Which is all more reason it makes me angry they are still fighting over there. The 'rebels' created an amazing revolution, against a ruthless murdering dictator. But now that they don't have hatred of him to unify them, they are going to start fighting each other?

We have seen this movie before. In the Balkans, for example. Once the iron fist of the Soviets was lifted, those folks could finally get back to their real business: ethnic hatred and murder.

It's sad. It's disgusting. It's all the more reason I think us humans would do well to let the next evolutionary step happen sooner rather than later.

The Surreal Ruins of Qaddafi’s Never-Never Land

Jehad Nga for The New York Times

An abandoned children's amusement park inside Qaddafi's compound after it was overrun by rebel fighters.

On the evening of Aug. 23, during the final hours of the battle for Tripoli, a 26-year-old lawyer named Mustafa Abdullah Atiri was lying, exhausted, against the back wall of a filthy tin-roofed warehouse crammed with 150 prisoners. He had been beaten and tortured every day since Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi’s soldiers arrested him four days earlier. It was just after the muezzin’s first call to evening prayer — about 10 minutes before 8 — when a pair of guards walked to the door, raised their AK-47 rifles and began spraying the men with bullets. Another guard threw a grenade into the densely packed crowd. Bodies fell on top of Atiri with the first fusillade, protecting him from the blast. Then the guards opened fire again. Blood began seeping down from the bodies above, soaking his jeans. As the officers walked back across the yard to reload, a guard named Abdel Razaq, who had shown the men some small mercies over the previous days, went to the door and shouted at the survivors: “Run! Run!”

Not me! {#Lol}  I'm looking forward to seeing stuff that hasn't seen the light of day for the first time in 25 years. {#Mrgreen}

Those were the days.  Back then, saying "gulf" and "war" meant the Gulf of Sidra.  The only all-variable geometry fighter battles that I'm aware of...those were the days. {#Wink}

I remember snippets of what I think was a "60 Minutes" interview with him, back when they were still shooting on film.  He showed off his VW Beetle, which he claimed was his only ride, and did the interview in a tent out in the desert that was far less luxurious than the one that he greeted McCain, Graham et. al. in.  At the time it looked like he was really playing up a "man of the people" angle.

Now I wonder how many desert hidey-holes this guy has to sustain him.

Doctors and nurses fled after clashes erupted nearby between rebel forces and those loyal to Col Muammar Gaddafi.
