I am interested in building (more assembling, really) a prefab, small footprint, but sophisticated concrete or steel home.  I have found info on the net, of course, but if anyone who has had the experience of doing this or has a recommended resource, please PM me.
Below are two I am considering:
China Contemporary Modular Homes / Light Gauge Steel Prefab Villa supplier

i like them both

the metal especially

tons of prefab stuff to choose from

even crane-like 3-D printers will be "printing out" composite homes in less than a day soon

Ours are Milgard. It was a tossup between them and Atrium, Both were good, but Milgard could hit our delivery requirements.  Happy with them so far. The latches are very cool/easy to operate on the sliders, but still lock very securly - a major plus.

Thanks. Thanks a lot. Now I have to choose between THREE brands...

What brand? I am investigating replacements. Looking like Marvin or Kolbe&Kolbe. Might do sash-only replacements, it's cheaper and doesn't require tearing out the old frames. BUT the old frames have to be square and plumb, which is not a foregone conclusion.

Andersen is right out. Their sales techniques are infuriating. Who calls at 9:30 on a Saturday morning and gets a sale?

We used Houzz a lot when we did our remodel. We got the biggest windows we could within our constraints. In the future I want floor to ceiling that open all the way up.

Less fire danger, too, I would imagine. That should mean lower insurance rates, too.
